Great idea for laser level use. I know what I will be doing tonight.

Since you have the laser on permanent duty I take it you adjust your VTA every time you put on a new LP depending on the thickness, or?

I give it a peek if I'm going from say a 200gr LP to a standard "thin" LP or back. Most of what I listen to is "heavy" vinyl and there is no adjustment needed between 180 and 200gr vinyl. What's more important to me is making sure it's dialed in when I'm setting tracking force.

I also point it head-on to the arm to visually check that the cartridge is perpendicular to the record (visual VTA) before going to the Fozgometer. That's something I don't do very often however.

Steve, your TT looks great. You look like a super hard core analog guy with that laser level setup. If you are going to that extreme, I believe you will benefit even more with a upgraded phono stage. I remember when I first got my VPI and would adjust my VTA depending on the thickness of the record. I have gotten to lazy and those days are over for me. I just set it in the middle and forget about it. I feel good if I just brush a record before I play it. I do prefer the sound of vinyl over CDs though.

Thanks Paul! I'll admit I'm really enjoying my return to vinyl. I'm sure the laser level process will grow old relatively quickly. I've been told that a good phone stage will be desirable at some point, but for now I'm very happy with the phone input on the C2500. I just ordered the HRX pulley and extra belts last week. Cartridge upgrade in the future, followed perhaps by a phono stage. I've maxed out my equipment rack at this point, so no idea where I'd put it!

With the A95 being a very low output (0.2 mV) I would go the SUT route into the C2500. I ran a 2500 and while it sounded nice, the phono stage wasn't the quietest. Bob's Devices sells very nice SUTs for a reasonable price that replace the junction box on the table. They look and sound awesome and will not take up any more real estate.

I've checked out the step-up from Bob's Devices. It's not cheap at $1650, but it certainly solves my problem of not having room in my rack. Certainly under consideration even though "my guy" isn't a big fan of Bob's approach.

For the sake of discussion what approach doesn't he like? Just curious of other's opinions.

He's "not a fan of the cinaformers [Bob] uses." But that's all Greek to me.
