AFAIK, you can't use 2A3 tubes. The input tube has a large effect on the sound. If you are considering old production get them from a very reputable dealer. There is a lot of junk on the auction site.

I had a Jeff Korneff 45 and the EML solid plate was king of the hill. I preferred it to the EML meshies.

Think I’ll pick up a Cunningham 45 and check it out. I wonder if everything will be les than the EML 45 solids. Maybe different? What other rectifiers can be used, and will they affect the sound?

I recall seeing a couple of amps on eBay about 6 months back that were advertised as 45/2a3 that were made by Dennis. Can't find the listing anymore but I don't recall if there was a switch to change tubes. Hopefully straiwire or Dennis can get back to you.

Conventional wisdom says there should be a switch given the different operating points, but Dennis is the wizard. My only thought knowing very little is that maybe it's biased slightly hot for a 45 and low for a 2a3? Wondering if yours might be in a similar boat.

Communication seems to be hit or miss unfortunately
I'd just try again.

Curious if anyone has tried the GEC KT8C with adaptors??? Apparently they are one of the best 6L6 replacements.

Also, for those more tech savvy, my 6V6’er amp had 0.01uf coupling caps Originally , I have since rolled 0.022uf Audiocap Teflons in thier place. Dennis said that the jump in value should not be a problem. Now I have rolled some 0.01uf Duelund Cast tinned copper caps In their place. I am curious while these duelunds burn in can I parrallel them with my 0.022 uf Audiocap teflon to regain what I loved about those caps?? Total would be 0.032uf, is this a problem? Not sure exactly how coupling caps of such small value affect the sound, Tubes or output transformers.

Thanks

That may be a bit much at 3x .01. It won't hurt to try it but it may alter the frequency response.

Those Duelands take a LONG time to settle in. I use them a bypass caps.

There is nothing wrong with changing coupling caps. A little experimenting can yield surprising results and it's a lot less expensive than interconnects.

Thanks, I’ll give it a shot. Just wanted to check that nothing adverse would happen other than maybe sound a little off.
The Teflons are just collecting dust otherwise.

Cheers

Does anyone know the input impedance of a PSE amp? I am research a high pass filter for use with active subwoofers.

Thanks,
R
