I'll put an electric screen which will be pulled up when I'm listening to audio.
I was talking about a bigger TV in lieu of a front projector.

I don't care much for 3D. I've never used it on my tv.

How about one of the 80-90 inch (200-225 cm diagonal) TV's in either HD or Ultra HD?

I forgot to ask, are you replacing the TV? Or is the TV still going to be used? If so, that might complicate the layout further.

I didn't understand the part about a deeper screen and the impact on sound when in hifi.

That will cost me much more than a front projector.

I'm keeping the tv. The idea is to have an electrical screen that will come in front of the tv when using the projector.

The base do the screen will be equal to the distance between the Elipsa.

I'm not sure if you have air conditioning installed but if you have the drop down screen in front of the TV, it could possibly move a bit. Could be distracting.

My speakers are about 5 feet away from the wall so the screen would have to be narrower than the distance between the speakers because of the way the projector light cone works.

I don't have AC installed and I plan to buy a tension screen so it would not move.

Good point, it's better to go a little bit smaller and have the speaker out of the way

I think tensioned screens can still move if they aren't flush against the wall.

Georges,
Your plan is a good one. A high quality tensioned screen with pure white material, Stewart Studiotek 130 or similar, will provide a great canvas for a high quality projector. While a fixed screen is the gold standard, with a tensioned drop down you can still use your TV for casual viewing. Some things are better on a smaller screen.

Depending on the depth of the room and the zoom range of the projector, you can place the projector on a shelf on the back wall near the ceiling. That is the easiest installation. Since all you need is power and HDMI, the cable situation is very manageable.

Good blacks and high contrast ratios are the most important things in creating a great cinema viewing experience. So I would recommend either the JVC or Sony LCOS projectors. DLP blacks are weak, and LCD blacks and mid tone fidelity are not great.

Planning a good mechanical installation is very important.

Hope this helps,

Tom

Tom
I second what Tom is saying about the blacks and high contrast ratios. I am a JVC D-ILA owner and they are absolutely stunning. I do have a blacked out dedicated home theater with a 120" acoustically transparent screen. The depth of color and sharpness with the JVCs are second to none. I did consider the Sony projectors as well, but one thing I wanted to take advantage of was that I always wanted a true cinemascope 2.35:1 screen for movies. The JVCs have the lens memory feature which allows you to zoom in or out so you can watch movies in a full cinemascope way. Anyway, the blacks on the JVCs are outstanding, but it's the contrast that blew me away when I finally got it all dialed in. On many blu ray disks, there are scenes that look completely 3D even on standard disks. My wife is hardly into any of this A/V hobby, but she couldn't believe the picture on the JVC. She said it was like looking through a window.

Thank you Tom, that's the plan. The project in the back of the room above the door.

JVC and Sony are the two names that stands out. There is an active second hand market so I should be able to find one that wouldn't be too expensive and would allow me to put more on a good screen.

I saw the price of 65" 4k TV's and I could build a nice projector+screen with a bigger size for less.
