Default 2 Channel A/V, TV as source selector

How many use your TV as a VIDEO source selector for your 2 channel Audio / Video?

Example: Apple TV, DirecTV, PS3, connected to the HDMI inputs on a TV. The TV's ANALOG output connected to a single ANALOG input on the 2 Channel Audio system. The Turntable connected to the Phono input of the PRE/receiver/integrated amp. Then use the PRE/ Integrated AMP remote to control all (input , channels, and volume.)

This is opposed to using a HDMI equipped receiver (likely in 2 channel mode) as the HUB for all A/V functions.

Sub question: If I had, say, a McIntosh MA6600 what would be the recommended method of connection? All video inputs connected via HDMI and just the TV's ANALOG and the turntables PHONO outputs connected to the MA6600? Or Each individual ANALOG audio output connected to the respective ANALOG input of the MA6600? Would the MA6600 remote switch both the TV's and it's input at the same time or is that a job for the Harmony brand remotes? (hint: I really want to buy a McIntosh integrated)

It's really the TV's DAC vs the Component's DAC. Furthermore, for those who cant decided on a DAC, there are possibilities for one to several external DACs*.

*note: more input "layers" could happen with a DAC that has 3 inputs, however this could also change the game of MA7000 vs MA6600 due to the TV's or multiple input DAC's outputting a consistent level. The MA7000 does not allow the user to adjust for varying component output levels- a minor quibble.

Okay, I don't know if I could ask anyone this question without a "HUH!?!", so I thank you for your understanding of my obsession.

In my case, for the family room TV (where I've not done anything special wrt audiophilia) I do use the TV as a source selector. I run my HD Cable box, AppleTV, and a Blu-Ray player into the TV via three individuals HDMI connections.

I then run TOSLINK out from the TV into a pioneer Receiver. This way we simplify the setup so the Mrs only needs to worry about the receiver's volume control IF she wants better sound than what the TV itself provides (which, frankly, she could care less about). But it's nice for me and the kids when we are watching something together, on occasion, to have "full" sound.

As an aside, I have to assume TVs use DACs that are embedded in the video CODEC chips they spec (as cheaply as possible)... I can't imagine there's anything to write home about wrt TV DAC performance.

Cheers
