I still purchase CD and SACD discs, it seems almost every month. My question is once the newness of streaming begins to fade as it eventually will, what new format will emerge from manufacturers and dealers to sell to the audiophiles? Will the upcoming generation when introduced to music still want to stream it?

I am sure that with the ever faster cable internet and upcoming 5G, we'll see more and more streaming.
You'll be able to download whole albums in a fraction of a second.
I'm still very attached to my physical media, but since I stream Qobuz and Tidal, I try to limit myself to buying no more than one album a month, which is hard.
Young people don't buy CDs. Haven't done so, and never will.
We CD lovers are a dying breed I'm afraid.

With a touch of reminiscence, I agree.

I am collecting music.
My CD,Sacd collection is larger than my vinyl collection.
I own maybe 10 high resolution digital download format of my very favorite albums.
Last night when I got home from work at 12:30 am I had no internet access. No problem because I have physical media to play.
When digital streaming is the only game in town you will be held hostage by the providers.
If they close shop you are s.o.l. too.
My opinion of course.

You don’t need a provider or internet service to stream your own files from your own server. With a good backup system, they may well outlast a cd.

My vote is CDs will become a niche product around the globe, limiting pressings for specific albums.

The used market will have a place.

It’s appears obvious to me streaming is here to stay for music, movies and will also replace cable boxes, and land line phones as well. I already have the ability to call someone on my Mac Book Pro.

I am definitely a CD fan and still buy them as my only recorded music with no plans to change in the foreseeable future.

I realize this, I know I was vague but was thinking about streaming music in my reference.

I have mp3 music on Amazon music server's. For years when you buy music you would get a digital copy on their music site.
They are no longer going to be hosting this music without special request.I have to download then before they stop hosting
