Default HDMI setting on JVC projector

Hi,

I am 2-ch guy, so I will have to ask this simple question.
On Setup menu of my JVC projector, there are 3 options of HDMI
Setting. Standard, Enhanced, Super White.
From manual and from my guts, it should be at Standard. But the installer
Insisted on Enhanced. And that I think deep black suffers from installer setting.
Any idea? Thank you
Toga

Depends on the player. I remember on the PS3, if you set both the player and display to enhanced, it worked better to pass BTB and WTW.

Which projector do you have? My JVC options are Standard, Enhanced and Auto. I set mine to Auto. Picture mode to THX.

HDMI represents video signals by the digital value range of 0 - 255. Fundamentally, value 0 is black, value 255 is white, and the values between are levels of gray. The actual range of video for each type of signal source is:

0 – 255 = Video range for PC graphic signals (Enhanced setting)

16 – 235 = Video range for standard video signals (Standard setting)

16 – 255 = Video range for Super White video sources (Super White setting)

Although video from a PC utilizes the entire 0 – 255 range, typical video sources use level 16 as the base level for black and level 235 as the peak level for 100% white. Super White video sources also use level 16 for black but use level 255 for peak white.

If you run a normal source with the pj set for enhanced, you have to increase the black level a bunch or you get crushed blacks. A calibration disk is your friend here.

So you need to check your player's setup Manual. Also with JVC projectors, at least my RS-50 and others i've calibrated, this is a global setting that will not save with any of the Picture Modes.

Thanks! I think sometimes the terminology gets in the way of setting up our gear correctly.
