Congrats, Aditya! So interested to follow your journey with the M3s..

You should definitely consider tube power amps, especially if you listen to jazz and classical music. I prefer tubes for this type of music, but I switch to my solid-state amps for rock and HT.

Btw you should also consider upgrading your cartridge. I switched from a Cadenza Blue to a Lyra Etna SL, it's a huge improvement and a great pairing with my VPI.

Aditya,

Can you do a head to head of the M3 and 802D3 in house?

Thank you so much ! I’m really excited. I’m actually leaning towards boulder. I love the transparency and the way those amplifiers control the loudspeaker.

I may consider tubes in the preamp. The ARC Ref6 is obviously in a class of its own but I want to hear it.

Thank you for your reply !

Joey

Unfortunately I won’t. The 802s will be taken away before the M3 come in, as my dealer may have a buyer for them already.

I can tell you that the two speakers are quite different from each other:

The Magico is a much more balanced speaker. I found that the highs on the b/w to be quite harsh and fatiguing. The bass on the b/w was not nearly as good. The mid-bass on the M3 is unlike anything I’ve ever heard. It’s so clean and just magical . The Magico is such a tonally balanced sound that it is seems so natural. There is just so much emotion pouring from music that it becomes a palpable effect in the room. I hardly felt emotion from the 802. It seemed a bit sterile and hyper-analytical to me. I could listen to the Magicos for hours and hours.

There is a refinement with Magico that can’t really be described with words. It is by far and away, the best speaker I have ever heard. I’m sorry I can’t come with better descriptors.

Like I said when I heard these speakers at first, I was completely speechless. The articulation, the energy, the shear beauty of the sound I was hearing was surreal.

Boulder electronics would be an incredible pairing.

The dream would be a 3160 stereo with the 2110 pre. However I bet I will likely go with the 2160.

Joey, you owe it to yourself to go listen to the M3! I bet they have a dealer in Dallas area that has them.

Aditya, really nice and thorough set of reviews.I enjoyed reading them. Another electronics manufacturer that you might want to consider with your Magicos is NAIM. My manager has a Magico system with NAIM electronics and it sounds fantastic.

This is the exact combo I use on the Q3’s. Truly amazing equipment. I will upgrade to the M3’s as well.

Congratulations on your speaker selection!!
