Default Amp stand project from misc parts

I have had for some time now two sets of four unused Salamander Aluminum Claw Feet (SA/AF/4) and two extra unused Salamander Archetype black shelves. I wanted to find a way to marry the chrome feet and the black shelves to make amp stands for my two McIntosh MC275VI tube amps. The issue with the feet is they are designed to be screwed from underneath into the corner column of a Salamander Synergy cabinet. The screw hole in the foot is for a 5/16" course thread screw and the hole in the shelf corner is 1/2" diameter. I went to the specialty fittings and fasteners section of Lowes Home Improvement to see what I may find to fill in the 1/2" hole in the shelf that will thread down through the top of the foot. I also wanted to provide some dampening of vibrations. While there I found the following parts:

Hillman Elevator Bolts 5/16-18 x 2
Hillman Rubber Washers 5/16 x 1-1/4 x 1/16
Hillman Well Nuts 5/16-18
Hillman Rubber Washers 5/16x1-1/2x1/8
Hillman Flat Washers Nylon 5/16 x .140 x 1/32
Lock Nuts with Nylon insert for 5/16 course bolts

The Elevator Bolts are black with a flat head 1 1/8" diameter. I added the 1 1/4" diameter rubber washer by forcing it all the way to the underside of the bolt head. I then threaded the Well Nuts up the bolt tight against the rubber washer. The well nuts are about the same size as the shelf hole so it nicely fills in the void. They also have a brass thread inside and are rubber on the outside.

The next step is to put the screw assembly through the shelf hole and then add the 1 1/2" inch rubber washer to the bolt to the underside of the shelf. The chrome foot is then added and held in place with the nylon washer and the lock nut. I used adjustable pliers with rubber tape on the teeth to hold the top of the bolt and used a 5/16 socket set to tighten the lock nut.

The whole assembly came together rather quickly and I think it turned out quite nice.

Please excuse the photography and the cheesy background of the completed project. Just used a throw blanket on the kitchen counter.

Well done Jim! Feels good to not only use something extra but to do it with such a great result is fabulous. Of course, they will obviously match your rack so I bet it will look very nice. Craig

Nice work, Jim. Looks like a fun project and a great looking stand for your MC275VI amps.

I may turn the feet out to the corners for a broader stance. I think it will give a more distinctive look. Will do and post a photo in a day or two with the amps. Thanks.
