I just saw this video from Dodge and I can't deny it gave me some chills (even though I'm not a fan of muscle cars and drag racing). And 2.3 SECONDS !!!!

One point. It isn't really banned from NHRA. It is so fast that you must have a competition license and apparently extra safety equipment like a roll cage (which it doesn't come with).

Any car running 9.99 seconds or quicker needs to have “certain NHRA-certified equipment, including, but not limited to, a certified roll cage, window net, aftermarket driver restraint system, a driveshaft loop, and a master cutoff switch,” according to the NHRA post. The Demon doesn’t come with any of that, although it does have four-point harnesses in place of conventional three-point seatbelts. The driver must also have an NHRA competition license, and wear a full complement of safety gear, including a helmet, fire-resistant clothing, and a HANS device or similar neck collar.

Well Jim, yes.....it's banned from all NHRA tracks in the manner of which it's delivered from the factory.

Regardless, kudos to Dodge (Fiat) for having the balls to produce it, my old '70 T/A Challenger would do nothing but watch it's tail lights disappear on the horizon !

FCA has just released the MSRP for the Demon. A nice round $85k.

As I understand as long as you do not make a run in under 10 seconds you are not required to add the special equipment (roll bar, window net, etc). There is also supposed to be a switch to detune the vehicle which would prevent times requiring the additional gear. I am surprised they are planning on building 3000 for the US and an additional 300 for Canada.

This has been discussed on another car forum I frequent. The AVERAGE driver won't get the car under 10 seconds. They won't be able to get it to "hook up". Those that do run under will get banned at the track. I have a roll cage and I don't drag race. I am dedicated to road courses only. I blew my Porsche money on new speakers and amplifiers, and room treatments. I have much more overall enjoyment every day.
