How about taking the power conditioner out of your system. Just plug your amps and such directly to the wall and then see what they draw under normal use.

You say you tested with all consumers switched off, does that mean the electronics were switched off but still plugged in to the conditioner? If so, have you tried testing just the conditioner with nothing plugged into it? Maybe it’s one or more components that are drawing the power.

I would think the blades of the plug at least should become quite warm drawing that amount of current, continuously.

2,000 watts is the consumption of a small electric space heater. If it's really drawing that much, something should be getting quite warm - whether the a/c cord, plug, the unit itself or all three.

Have you tried plugging the conditioner into another outlet (preferably on another circuit).

Some devices have reactive elements that draw current but not dissipate any power.
Is that possible? Yes, absolutely.
Pure capacitance or inductance will draw significant current, but no power.

P=E*I*cosine(theta) where;
P=power, E= voltage, I= current, and theta is the phase angle between the voltage and current.

A pure inductance or capacitance have phase angles between voltage and current of +90 degrees and -90 degrees respectively.
Cosine of +90 degrees or -90 degrees is zero.

If your smart meter is measuring Volt-Amperes (VA) then you are paying for any reactive loads you draw, even if the real power dissipated is zero.

VA=E*I

Time to find out what's inside that power conditioner!

Kudos to Tom for finding the explanation

Apparently the PC-4 Evo draws current in the first half of the sinusoid and returns the unused energy in the second half of the sinusoid. So the current is ahead of the voltage by 90 degrees just as Tom said. Although the total consumed power is very low (no consumers active) the standard measurement equipment which electricians use shows the drawn energy without the returned energy.

Now I know it is not my power conditioner that eats my energy.

Let me also mention the help from Gigawatt. I sent them a mail with the problem and they replicated my scenario in their lab, sending me all the measurements and explained why I get the wrong readings measuring power consumption. Great service!

Something must be wrong, of course. I am at the moment just happy that it is not a problem of my hifi setup. In Berlin it was easy as I could, if required, take a Burmester component and drive to their factory (it was never required ). And Gigawatt is located in Poland, also not too far away. Now that I am 10.000 km away, I hate to think about organizing repairs of my equipment.

A problem with the smartmeter of my power supplier, my photovoltaic setup or a „rough“ consumer can be fixed locally.

I have seen Garth Powell mention the same phenomena with the Niagara series power conditioners. However, those units can be configured to go into a standby of sorts.
