I am sorry to hear that. It must be a sad story, regardless of the specifics. Album collections can be a very personal thing.

So clearly I'm the poor guy on these forums. I just picked up a VPI Prime Scout about 3 weeks ago - amazing! I had a pro-ject DC esprit for 2 years and this thing just blows it out of the water - JMW 9 tonearm, uni-pivot thingy, etc. It's fantastic. I imagine the higher cost ones are even better.

Serge,
I am going to present the opposite. I owned the VPI Avenger for a year. I did not like this table one bit. It turned me off of vinyl. The unipivot arm was a royal pain in the butt. It introduces a whole other issue of azimuth. I found the arm to be less stable. Introduce clearaudio. Their universal tonearm is a pure joy to use. Extremely stable in the groove and no azimuth issues to deal with. Further, I think that CA builds a superior turntable in both construction, durability, and appearance. I will never look back. I realize we have lots of Vpi owners on this forum and they seem to be very happy and that’s fantastic. I just wanted to present the opposite side.

I'm still trying to decide what "level" of a TT to land on and enjoy for many years as upgrading or wishing I bought something better from the get go is something I am trying to avoid. Well, no rush with this decision, I'll take my time and think things through. |

A concern of mine (when last shopping, before I bought my first CA Innovation) about VPI was of course 1) their unipivot arms and 2) the way they change philosophies and directions, which causes many of their top-tier tables to become outdated or OOP within just a few short years (excepting the lovely HR-X). The Innovation products were done right from the start, and are still an excellent part of the CA lineup 8 years later, still in their original forms. |

Mike - Not sure I agree that VPI changes philosophies or direction frequently. Their HW19, Aries/TNT, Scout/Scoutmaster & Classic series were all around for at least 10yr, each, and most for more. That's a pretty good run in this hobby. Even Linn's LP12 has gone thru many, to this day, upgrades/changes over the year. Only looks the same on the outside.

Thank you! I’m enjoying it very thoroughly. There’s no doubt that Clearaudio makes a fantastic product; VPI is a great company ( I have personally met Mat and Harry and they are super nice people) but I just think CA works my needs better (and yours). In the end, all of us are just trying to enjoy some good music [emoji444]!
