Default Which model of Wilsons?

I own a pair of Sashas. They replaced a pair of Sophia 2’s and were in my dedicated media room (14 x 26 x 7.5). Once I got the Sashas I ended up employing a Rives PARC to dial in the bass (the room is soundproofed and even with many bass traps I had issues due to the fact that bass does not escape). I also experienced a ‘glare’ (upper midrange and treble harshness) with the Sashas and tried many things but couldn’t quite solve the problem to my satisfaction. I then moved them upstairs to my family room (very open with higher ceiling) and they performed so much better that they are going to stay there (even my wife doesn’t want to let them go back downstairs, she’d sooner me get another pair).

So... I can’t watch movies again until I get something. My center channel is a Wilson Watch 2 (and my rear surrounds are Watch Surround 1’s) so it probably makes sense to stay within the Wilson family of products (hence me posting here!).

I’ve never heard any Wilson product other than Sophia 2’s and Sashas. I do want the flexibility of being able to listen to music downstairs as well (for example, 50’s jazz always sounded wonderful on the Sashas down there and I could listen at any time of the night due to the soundproofing), but it somehow feels like overkill to get another pair of Sashas (especially on my wallet!). I’m contemplating Watt Puppy 8’s, but am wondering about other models. I suppose I would also consider Sophia 2’s (ironic since I sold my pair) and maybe even Sophia 3’s.

For those of you who have had experience with many of the various Wilson models, what would you suggest?

Thanks in advance!

Sophia III's will be a more natural fit for what you are trying to achieve.

I've owned Sophia II, III and Sasha.

Also, experiment with speaker placement better, none of the Wilson speakers you mentioned should you give you bass trouble in that size room. I've had my Sophia III in a very similar size room with superb bass response that was smooth, textured and very articulate. Wilson speakers are probably one of the easiest speakers to place in the room with virtually no coupling issues.

In terms of glare, what gear do you have?

Default Ever given the Duette's a try?

Ever thought of maybe trying a pair of Duette's with a WATCHDog (series 1 or 2)? The Duette has a different tweeter (I know you had issues with the tweeter in the Sasha - which you might find with older W/P series as well if you are that sensitive to it), not as fussy about placement, and is a lot less than Sasha - yet is huge bang for your buck!

Just putting that idea out there

Madfloyd...where do you reside? Do you have a local Wilson dealer trained in the Wilson set-up method? I kind of second Debbie's suggestion of the Duette. I believe the Sophia 3s share the same Focal tweeter with the Sashas and I remember you changed out the resistor on the Sashas to attenuate the high frequency response and it sounds like you still had an issue. The Duette might just be the ticket and if you plan on listening to 50s Jazz late at night, the Duettes might just be the ticket for that kind of an intimate listening session. I know there are a few AA members who own them who will be able to give you a much better sense for their sonic presentation.

MadFloyd,

Seems like the low ceiling in your media room was part of the problem with
your Sashas.

You like the sound of your Sashas, so how about a pair Mezzos?

• Driver Complement identical to the Sasha W/P
• Modular construction with separate, optimized enclosures for each of the
driver sections.
• Adjustable Propagation Delay accommodating a variety of theater
applications.
• Main enclosure constructed from X-Material
• S-Material midrange baffle; S is the latest composite derived from Wilson’s
ongoing materials research
• Adjustable for floor or stand mount.
• Frequency and dynamic range similar to the Sasha W/P.

The low profile should work better with your low ceilings.

With the color matched to your Wilson Watch 2, it would be a really cool looking set up.
