Is this a joke?

Yeah, I think it was a joke...

Even the Class D stuff still pulls that much wattage when driven, just lighter and less consumption at idle or when off...

If you are that concerned about greening yourself instead of sound quality - then go get a Bose WaveRadio. Otherwise, if you want to ease your conscience, get solar (actually, get solar to give the middle finger to all the power co's, the carbon footprint is just a bonus).

You guys are friggen' amazing. Someone asks a question and most of you blow it off like Marie Antoinette's "Let them eat cake". That's the way to be inclusive here.

If companies like McIntosh intend on continuing to sell their products "globally" then they will have to develop products that consume less energy. As noted by some here you are already seeing products from Audio Research, Krell, and Jeff Rowland that attempt to address the issue. Those were business decisions.

+1 Jim !

But I 'm not a good example. My 2301's and my 60 inches Pioneer plasma TV are really not energy efficient... oh wait ! they are efficient actually :
while watching a movie or listening to music in winter, you don't have to use a heater !

This is no different than trolling on a Lamborghini board discussing the need to have higher gas mileage cars.

I am not a great example either, but being Green was not my point.

Jim.......I don't think anyone has been exclusive with their comments. Dan didn't ask us to hold hands and sing Kumbaya in the key of (G)reen, he asked us for out thoughts. That is what he is getting.

I do note that, in terms of energy consumption, my 501s don't pull as much power as the amps they replaced. They run less than 50w at idle, and when I play them, the pair is using about 120w. Even the turn-on surge is less. So they're more efficient that my other amps. Plus, I haven't known them to get even warm to the touch yet.

Someone mentioned a Pioneer plasma. I have one, and note that even though it gives off a fair amount of heat, it doesn't consume any more power than the 27" CRT it replaced, perhaps less.
