Returning to the flat glass face plate was a good design decision that allows the amplifier to sport the larger blue meters. I like the look, especially with the addition of the new handles. The amplifier's looks exude both muscle and finesse. A quick look at the rear shows the upgraded multi-way binding posts, premium gold plated RCA inputs and outputs, plus balanced inputs and outputs. The new outputs are a nice added feature that offers additional installation configurations. Added to these new features are Thermal Track output transistors that allow the output stages to automatically fine tune bias based on the operating temperature of the output transistors. Another nice addition to the amplifier's feature list is it's ability to have the meter lighting controlled from McIntosh preamplifiers that offer meter light control. A simple remote control command will control meter lighting on both the preamp and the amp simultaneously. Of course, the MC452 also packs 50 watts per channel of additional output power over the popular MC402, for a total of 450 watts per channel.

At first glance it is easy to just see the MC452 as a power bump over the MC402, but it is much more than that, and will no doubt be a strong seller for McIntosh. I am looking forward to seeing this amplifier hit the street, and find its way into member's systems so we can get the scoop on it.
