Well so much for being worried about energy efficent amplifiers. Just brought used McIntosh MC300 and my Monster Power HTS3600 Mk II showing I am only using 1.4 amps with volume cranked. Desktop pc showed 1.8 amps on display in comparison!!!! Maybe autoformers help amplifier to be efficent?

hard to believe older McIntosh power amp still can sound this good)))) never brought used before but McIntosh is exception

Dan.......I owned and loved the MC300 for 13 years. It was trouble free, and sounded as good the day I traded it as the day I bought it. Hope you enjoy it for many years.

Hi Dan

I work for a McIntosh dealer and could afford the new C50 but not a power amp at same time. The price I paid for this MC300 is low enough I could not buy new McIntosh amp or Bryston amp. I believe it has autoformers inside but not sure about rest of amplifier design for MC300 compared to new MC302 or MC252 being replaced by MC302

According to correspondence I had with McIntosh yes, the autoformers do help efficiency. In fact, my 501s use about 1 amp at reasonable levels, and so far don't get even warm.
