What size is your room?

If the room does end up being too small, the Il Cremonese may be a more viable option.

In his review of the Il Cremonese for issue 79 of TONEAudio magazine, Jeff Dorgay has this to say about the Cremonese in comparison to Lilium and Aida:

"After auditioning the Il Cremonese for some time with a wide range of amplification, these speakers are truly without flaw. They are full range speakers that play loud, play soft and best of all, play it right. I don’t necessarily see the two speakers up in the Sonus faber range as being “better” than the Il Cremonese, but more suited to progressively larger rooms."

You can download the magazine here:

Unless you're moving to a significantly bigger room, and I mean significantly, don't get the lilliums. They will simply overpower that room. Really, it's a waste of the speaker as you'll have to eq them to tame the bass. Also, the high freq will be rolled off.

Now...if you're moving to bigger room, then go for it!

Quoting HIFI NEWS "The Stradivari wins on grace and subtlety, The Lilium on sheer power and scale" ....Pick your poison.

Your current room is definitely too small for the Lilium.

IMHO, the non-Franco Serblin designs do not have the inherent musicality and listenability of his fabulous designs, trading musicality for excitement.

As Dan stated, you need to listen to the Liliums extensively with your favourite music, and preferably in your own room.

I would keep the Strads and rather upgrade up the chain.

I agree that your room will be the greatest limiting factor of any large speaker system. If the offer came from a SF dealer, seems like he/she should have taken into account your room size before suggesting the trade up. In my experience, the listening room is the most important factor to getting great sound quality, and often the most overlooked.

You might step back and list everything you love about your current system, as well as what you want to be different/better. Then start the upgrade path by being very clear about what you are trying to achieve. That way, you will more likely be successful as you make changes. Too often we move sideways, or even backwards, when we don't start out being very clear. I'm speaking from personal experience!

I don't mean to be a wet blanket here...my wife tells me I'm way too analytical. Good luck.

Dave

Thanks for your thoughts. I agree that my room is too small. I have decided to treat my room with bass traps, diffusers, I have just placed a order with GIK

If you're so inclined, you can try out a professional setup service with Jim Smith. I've only heard good things about his services. I have no affiliation with Jim, and this is an FYI only.

You can read about his services here:

+ 100.

If I were lucky enough to own the Strads, I would simply never part with them.
