Getting Files Out of Laptop

OK....... think that with everyone's help (thank you) I've got ripping CDs figured out (hardware & software). Once I've got my library of CDs ripped into the laptop in hi-rez format, if I understand correctly, I'll need a DAC to feed the digital files back into my system and am thinking of something like a Schiit Bifrost multibit. There are three (3) inputs on most DACs. Coaxial SPDIF, Optical SPDIF & USB. Which is considered the best for low noise and optimum data transfer?

Are you using a laptop PC? If so, use the usb output.

USB it is then. You will need the McIntosh ASIO drivers if a Windows PC, so that your PC plays nice with your D100. If a Macintosh PC, I believe you simply hook it up.

Craig - do not have a D100. Looking at a Schiit Bifrost multibit DAC to drive something like their Valhalla 2 headphone amp.

Glenn, if you get the Bifrost and I would recommend the multibit upgrade, you are good to go with USB out from the laptop. Bifrost and other higher up DACs from Schiit have got a good pretty good handle on USB follies.

I agree. Go with the USB connection from the PC to the DAC.

One thing you might want to consider down the road is adding a USB Reclocker to that circuit between the PC & the DAC, something like a Wyred4Sound Remedy or Recovery. It's a very inexpensive tweak that provides an amazing improvement in sound quality.

Michael - don't see any USB ports on the Remedy. Likely start without same and see if Wyred4Sound comes out with a USB model at some point.

Glenn, In the system you are moving to, USB from your laptop to your DAC, you would benefit from a W4S Recovery. But don’t buy one as I have one which I may not put back in my system. Since I got my G02 master clock, I am not convinced I hear any improvement. You can pick it up when you stop in next spring. . Craig
