Just curious what most owners have found. The manual makes no mention of removal of the grilles for best sonics. Wondering if most leave them in place?

I have had the same thought about several Sf models. Local dealer says it makes no difference and I have not been able to perform my own tests while his back was turned!

Some of the reviews on other SF models (like this one in Stereophile: Sonus Faber Cremona loudspeaker Measurements | Stereophile.com) show frequency response measurements with and without the string grilles. There is a modest difference in the high frequencies but there is no clear trend in overall response.

I've done a lot of listening to my Cremona M's both ways and I can hardly tell much difference myself.

For serious listening I always remove the grilles. Does it make any difference? IMO it adds a tad of freshness in the highs.

I've left my grills on for the most part. When I did remove them briefly, I didn't hear a noticeable difference and put them back on. My system is in a room that is also used by my children for TV and video games, so I also wanted to make sure that I'm utilizing whatever amount of protection the grills offer.

Jason.......I have similar string grills on my Sonus faber Amati Anniversario's. I have done a number of listening tests with the string grills in place and removed. I believe I hear a slight improvement in the presentation of upper midrange and above. It isn't dramatic but I sense that it is discernible if you are paying attention. That being said, I tend to leave my string grills on most of the time because I love the look.

I leave them on my Aida's, ditto love the look.

I have them off my Strads, sound a wee bit more detailed.
