Buying Demo 802D3
Greetings All - I'm going to listen to a demo pair of 802D3 this Saturday at a dealer new to me. He states they are demo, not used, only been on the floor for two years. Not that I doubt him, but.... Is there anyway to validate the age of the speaker, maybe a build date by serial number?

Welcome.
I would try contacting the B&W distributor to see if they can help. I am trying to remember if the distributor has changed since the 802d3 was first released in about 2016. Nice speaker. I once owned d2's. |

Interesting!
If they want to sell their demo's, does that possibly mean D4's are around the corner? I have bought lots of store demo gear in the past and found this is a great way to get full warranty and purchase at a great reduced price. |

A demo is a great way to go. Think how many hours of break in that saves. Some speakers really do take a while to come up to “song” between the large crossover caps and driver break-in.

My 805D3 took 200 hrs of break-in to lose the harshness in the treble. And I only play them on the weekend so this took a while. A fine speaker after the waiting period - patience grasshopper.

Look at the serial number and ask to see the box. On the box there will be a sticker with the serial number and date of manufacture.
I wouldn’t mind getting a demo either if the price was way cheaper than new. |

Midway through the first lockdown, my dealer offered me a pair of demo 802D3s at an unbelievable price. I jumped on it and couldn't be happier.

My dealer didn't know about D4s. His manager just wanted the 802 D3s in rosewood off the floor.

I hope they bring out better looking Subwoofers that match the aesthetics of the 800 Series with the D4...tired of easy to manufacture sharp edged boxes; they could at least round the top and sidewalls slightly, like they did with ASW825 etc that I used to have...
