Joe, I didn't think the MSB would have synergism with the 2301's, so was slanting toward a tube or at the least a warm ss pre. Soon as I played the first song I was loving it. The versatility of the dac as a pre as well made it very difficult for me to find another that could perform all of the same duties with the necessary inputs. This system has really put my faith back to an all time high as in chasing the wraith of upgrades. A couple of tweaks here & there, see how my ears hold up I guess.

I had no doubt the MSB could handle preamp duties. The detailed yet smooth dac plus the warm, 3D awesome MC2301's and Strads, OMG! A superb combo. You must have to strap yourself down to get through an entire cd.

Hi Kev, I have just been reading the Stereophile review of the Stradiveri's. It is a truly outstanding speaker my friend Rather different in character to my Marten Coltranes of course. One important thing which stuck out for me was the overall integration of the drivers is excellent, resulting in coherent sound. I think that's one of the most important aspects of a loudspeaker. Naturalness of tone and the ability to create a lifelike image being another. Congratulations on some excellent speakers!

Cheers,

Hey David, you hit on something there with your comment "overall integration of the drivers is excellent, resulting in coherent sound". The Strads are quite freaky with how they actually do cohere, 20ft away or 2ft away. The amps arrived on Friday morning, I worked Fri & Sat night, was late both shifts because I was cohering with my new system.

I'm hoping for a similar experience with my Marten Coltrane Alto's when I finish putting together my new system (so many changes, fingers crossed! ) Another speaker i've heard which offers amazing coherence are the Avalon Transcendents (as with all Avalons). I've also got a friend who owns Vandersteen 7's which apparently have freaky-good coherence as well.
