On Bluray movies, the video quality is on par with my existing Sony. The audio is another issue. On BD's that have choices like DTS and DD, on four discs I auditioned, the OPPO always displays DTS,regardless of the choices made.I thought it was my setup choices, but everything looks correct. I connected my Sony back up and played the same discs and when toggling between the different audio choices, the EAD processor displays the right format chosen each time. Going back and playing them on the OPPO, the EAD always shows DTS( except for one disc where it did show the change). I'm a bit stumped on this. It may have something to do with HMDI connectivity. I am only using the HDMI cable direct to the Pioneer Plasma.
Using only the digital coax, it is likely that the Oppo defaults to stereo dts, especially if you have not selected to avoid 2nd audio and other options.

You are correct. You have to select no on the 2nd audio option and then it will display the correct digital audio format chosen from the disc.

SACD playback defaults to PCM vs. DSD when HDMI is connected to a source that does not allow DSD (in my case, directly to the plasma set). To get around this, you can use component and display the contents of the disc onscreen and it shows DSD,or if using the HDMI connection, just turn the set off.

OPPO's support is excellent. They are quick to respond to their customers issues. This is a really nice player for the money.

Dropped by favorite local HiFi building - and in the end, pre-ordered (can cancel if I am not impressed) a Oppo BDP95 NuForce Xtreme Edition. Was told its going to be S$3k plus ..... which is about right given the current quoted price as US$2495.

I will use this as a second machine .... as I loved the BDP83se NuForce Edition very much. If the sound quality is going to outperform the BDP83se NuForce Edition, no brainer, will carry it home. If not by a wide margin, I'll just cancel the booking. No loss .... Was told its coming in April. Keeping fingers crossed.

Cheers!
