Good post, Ivan.

I don't consider myself as audiophile as many here, and as I've said before, I consider this an interest rather than a hobby (music is closer to a hobby). But I still like to check in and read or even respond to posts and threads on various things. The relaxed atmosphere and camaraderie is appealing, and I can enjoy someone else's experiences with their equipment (witness the veritable flood of new 601 owners) because of it.

I've been here about a year and can think of only two or three posts that raised an eyebrow or left me feeling a bit low. What a contrast to other forums. The Golden Rule is still in effect, and we can all benefit.

I have to get ready for work now.

Yeah good post Ivan but...mate...I'm not sure that a "whose pack'n heat" thread is all that wise. Of course it will bring out the divisions in the two main views of gun ownership: the "hell yes!" and "you have to be kidding" camps. Perhaps, like politics, certain subjects should be off limits. Of course - if you aren't interested you can always just not post.

You are right about coming here to escape life's pressures. It's much nicer to have someone post something positive than negative: and in my experience here just about everyone is very kind at their core. Bart, Jerome, Julian et al all post so positively.

Now who is for tea?

Ivan,
Thanks for that post.

I think in any situation where we're typing, and not speaking in person, things can become misunderstood, and tempers flare.

Maybe if we all try to take a moment, and think about our replies to something someone posted that upsets us before we press submit. We may find that the 2nd thought will have us deleting the reply and moving on.

I know I have read some things in emails and sites like this, typed a reply, and then deleted it, since I realized it would just cause another person to probably get upset, and it just goes downhill from there.

I completely agree. Many other forums just become rude, arrogant, and obnoxious places to prove how much better their gear is or how much smarter they are than you, etc.. They become so tiring and boring.

I have never felt that even once on this forum until the past week or so when certain topics were being discussed. I hope we can get things back to the real roots of why we all love this forum so very much.

Joe

Ivan, your op is the reason this forum is fast becoming one of my favorites.

I, along with 3 other business peers, run a small, by invitation only, forum. Forums work so much better when the snarky comments and politics stay out.

thanks

joe

I love this forum and value the opinions of the members both good and bad. I don't take things people say personally because it's their opinion and they have the right to express it just as I have the right to express mine. That's what makes this forum so great.

I have never written a word in this forum intended to belittle, ridicule, insult, or hurt anyone's feelings, but I do tend to tease and joke a lot. . . so, if I am one of the ones targeted by Ivan's post, I am deeply sorry for anything I have said that may have been construed as ridicule or criticism of anyone, or of anyone's opinions, beliefs, or of their posts in this forum.

I do know that I have written a few things that have been taken in the wrong way, and I think that, based on the other person's reply, I have quickly jumped back with an "I'm teasing and I'm sorry" or something like that - so maybe I am one of the bad guys.

Please folks, never take me seriously if you think I have said anything unkind.

Julian
