SAE HP2-D power amplifier
SAE (Scientific Audio Electronics) is back in business, albeit with new owners. As stated in Stereophile magazine, Morris Kessler manufacturers the ATI and Theta brands,has helped restore the company. Their latest offering is the SAE 2 HP-D Display version with 746Wpc into 8 ohms and 1350Wpc into both 4 ohms and 2 ohms. ($19,995).
Curious if anyone has seen or heard this amplifier. Comments?

Dan...At first glance I would say they definitely decided on using highly visible meters!
The chassis certainly looks robust and those toroidal transformers almost look as if they have had a steroid injection. I can't speak to the pricing other than for a new product from what is essentially a new company, despite the resurrection of a respected brand name, that price seems fairly exclusive and beyond the reach of a market I had assumed would need to be cultivated a bit before hitting the higher end. But, so be it.

Michael.......I tend to agree with your point of view, although introducing a high-end component followed by more modest components with trickle-down technology may be the plan. This is certainly one way to get noticed.
By the way, those meters are actually a large LCD screen that also displays a two channel spectrum analyzer if selected.

I had one that looked like GAS meters and another was owned by a friend that had a large LED meter display.

SAE's first entry in "big" power was called Ampzilla (maybe 250 wrms), in the mid/late 70's. It could be had with large meters. Jim Borjono also offered a modest entry level amp rated at 60wrms, always known as a sweet over achiever. It has had several names, Son of Ampzilla and Grandson. Borjono did design work for Dynaco, SAE, GAS, and SUMO.
