reviewer Art Dudley had the O96's placed out fairly far from the back wall. (6-7feet?) I played around with the placement of my 096's and it made a nice improvement in sonics. Do any other users care to comment on placement of these beauties?

Lowens,

Mine are easily 6+ feet from the back wall. Adding the space really allows them to breath..., in my humble opinion.

23' * 13.5' room with 9' ceilings.

Mine are along short wall, about 3.5' out (measured from back of speaker), some days i move them about 4.5' out. Each speaker is 3' from side wall, measured at outer edge of speaker (edge closest to the wall).

About every three weeks I adjust them based on mood. Not very scientific eh?

Do you get less bass when moved further away from back wall?

My room is 148" wide. The O/96's are on that wall. They are 31" from the side walls, and thus 86" (7+ ft) apart. I measure distance from side wall using CENTER of driver.

As far as length goes, I am pretty spot on to the manual. My long wall is 279". I am 1/5th (56") out from the rear wall. My seating position is 1/3 (93") from the wall BEHIND the listener. I measure this from the FRONT BAFFLE. My room has 8 foot ceilings, but otherwise is very close in size to Bplexico's.

In my room I find whether 3.5' or 4.5' out from back wall no material impact to bass. The former position may reinforce the bass a tad - but no clear winner yet - though my gut tells me overall the 4.5' position wins for overall tonal balance. I need to play around with this some more. I see my colleague back East (fjn04) has a room with similar dimensions but has his slightly closer to the side walls and assuming he is measuring from the back of cabinet, a similar distance into the room.

Hi Barr- We are just about the same from the back wall. I measure from front Plane of the speaker. My side wall measurement is always done from CENTER woofer or tweeter. They were sounding spectacular last night. Was spinning:
Louis Armstrong: Plays WC Handy (Pure Pleasure)
Led Zep: Physical Graffiti (Classic) *This one always sounds great on the O's !
Matthew E. White: Can't remember the title, but interesting newer music @
Very well recorded. Cheers, Don

Don - Nice tunes - I would love to pickup a good copy of Led Zep's Physical Graffiti - especially to hear Kashmir in all its glory. Da da da, da da da...

Still remember seeing them at Madison Square Garden in I believe 1977 doing that number, they were beyond great!

I have the Louis too, great album.

Never heard of Matthew White, will need to look him up. Just got the vinyl re-issue of Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness, will be spinning tonight.

Hi Barr- Never checked out the Smashing Pumpkins, but will try to access some of their stuff. Back on Led Zep, I just saw Celebration Day at local Theater called Proctors. The average age of the crowd may have been late 40's. It was a nice experience, and the sound was better than I expected. There was alot of clapping after each song, and foot tapping during.... All proceeds went to Kron's disease, which I may have just misspelled, so for a good cause.

I like the Classic Zep's very much, but not for the going rates. I think you should try to find a 1st UK or US pressing. I just became aware of a website called Discogs, which is an easy way of finding which pressing's are early.
