Default Wine and Cheese Music Evenings

Nothing like sharing the passion and the hobby with loved ones.

So this evening it will be a Wine and Cheese music appreciation evening with my lovely wife.

We typically will listen together at least a few times a month alternating as to the music preference but trying to keep it fun for both. My wife, for the most part, agrees with my choice of music anyway since it is often playing in the house and she has grown used to it over the years.

I had an idea of us exploring "women composers" this evening.

I have no idea what to expect or what I will find since I am not familiar with any of them but it will be fun to explore.

No doubt it will be proportionally more fun with the quantity of wine consumed..

The list I will use to search Roon/Qobuz/Tidal.

1. Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179)
2. Francesca Caccini (1587-1640)
3. Barbara Strozzi (1619-1677)
4. Isabella Leonarda (1620-1704)
5. Louise Farrenc (1804-1875)
6. Fanny Mendelssohn (1805-1847)
7. Clara Schumann (1819-1896)
8. Teresa Carreño (1853-1917)
9. Cécile Chaminade (1857-1944)
10. Amy Beach (1867-1944)
11. Rebecca Clarke (1886-1979)
12. Germaine Tailleferre (1892-1983)
13. Lili Boulanger (1893-1918)
14. Ethel Smyth (1858-1944)
15. Judith Weir (b.1954)

Share your fun filled evening with your favorite beverages, cheeses, music and ideas to involve and entertain our loved ones so the hobby is more mutual.

Good idea Serge.
We have such evenings 7 days a week, albeit not always with wine or cheese.
(Tonight we share a single malt).

Nice list of female composers.
Qobuz sent us in one of their weekly newsletters a comparable list a while ago.
We followed their lead and enjoyed it very much.
You're in for a treat!

Bart, you have achieved harmony and balance! Cherish it. Oh and yeah, let's not drink 7 days a week, ok?

Hmmmm, sounds nice. My wine and cheese evenings consists of me yelling at my two girls to clean up their socks and shoes while they're wrestling on the floor.

I met Judith Weir when she premiered her clarinet concerto with my local symphony orchestra in a local church. Humble lady and looked frail, it was a good piece.

Beautiful, simply the best of life!

Reminds me of fond times spent with my 2nd wife. Lovely women.
I had a brownstone in Brooklyn Heights, a short walk from the promenade.
The place had a wonderful front parlor where I had a grand piano. We would have wine and cheese and she would play.

Wonderful memories, enjoy!

Thank you, it was very enjoyable except that:

We both agreed that "exploring" new music is a bit difficult over wine and cheese. It is best to stick to familiar and favorite. Too much fussing over finding stuff that is actually agreeable and it gets distracting as either the music or the recording quality left a lot to be desired. So after trying out some of the female composers, we simply enjoyed some of my wife's favorites such as Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff from the Romantic Period as well as some Baroque music of Bach, Vavaldi and finished with Albinoni (my favorite Adagio, although some say it was not Albinoni who wrote it!)

All in all a very pleasant evening.

By the way, I lived not too far from the place you mentioned back in the late 70's and early 80's in the Sheepshead Bay area before moving to Queens for a few more years.
