Default MBL Noble products?

My curiosity has been piqued by some MBL gear.

The MBL 5011 is a linestage...
approx. $11,000 new and $4500 on the gon

The MBL 1521 is a transport...
approx. $11,000 new, $5500 on the gon...

The MBL 1511 is a DAC...
approx $11000 new, $4300 on the gon...

The TAS reviewed these pieces together in 2006 and the review was pretty positive, though not extensive.
MBL 5011 Linestage Preamp, 1521 A CD Transport, and 1511 E DAC | AV Guide

They seem to be in the same price range as some McIntosh products. How do they compare?

Haven't heard their whole line but I can vouch for the 9008 A monoblocks and the 6010 D preamp with the I believe 1622 CDP. It was one of the best sounding systems I have heard in over 20 years.

Were the speakers you heard MBL or a more conventional design?

You'd never believe it.... KingSound Prince 2 electrostats. Well, the bass was just a tad lacking but the sound was the most natural, organic and simply intoxicating. I spoke to the guy the other day and he is now running the Kings and says they are even better yet...

Prince 2 with MBL

I also see what looks like Sunyata Hydra 4s behind the amps, and some Darkfield Elevators too. VERY snazzy!

Check out FM Acoustics as well. It might be a close call depending on how you like the sound. Prices are comparable to MBL.

Superb products FM Acoustics. One of the best sounds I ever heard was a compete FM system, including speakers coupled with a SPJ turntable and Lyra Titan MC cartridge
