Default Tannoy Precision 6.2

My dealer mentioned that I "have to" hear the 6.2 Precision speaker from Tannoy just for fun. He could not believe how good it was for the money. I sent my son over to check them out and to compare to the Vandersteen 2Ce Sig II's he's been using in his own system. My dealer's surprise with these 6.2s seems to be very valid as my son was also smitten by their unusuall for this price personality. Keep in mind that my son has been in the hobby for only a few years but he grew up listening to ALL my previous speakers and plays the guitar so has a pretty good ear! I quote him, "this speaker sounds bigger than it's footprint would lead you to believe, is warm and musical while being good at recreating space and detail on the recording".... Ok then, I guess the Tannoy saga in our household continues... I will call my dealer on Monday to see what we can work out.

Anyone else hear the 6.2's?

Those would be a bit too bass heavy for my son's room where he listens and they are at least 2x the price...

Haven't heard those 6.2's yet, though I have heard a lot of other Tannoy models. They look a lot -- visually and on paper -- like the discontinued Eyris DC3 that got me started in pursuit of both serious 2ch and serious Tannoys! So I'd expect they would sound unexpectedly good for that footprint and price point. They hit a sweet spot there with moderate footprint, reasonable efficiency, and good extension. The next 2 speakers I "upgraded" to after the Eyris DC3 turned out to be big downgrades in terms of musicality -- finally found salvation again with the TD10, then Kensington SE, and now Canterbury SE.

Would love to have these in my bedroom for the TV. I wholeheartedly encourage your purchase

A new pair of 6.2s in gloss black are happily singing upstairs in my son's room. They really exude the look and feel of higher quality in terms of finish. The included spikes and knurled locking rings also make you stop and appreciate the metal plinth that is also surprisingly nice for a speaker in this price range. The overall package is just elegant, neat and compliments a room instead of being an eye sore like many speakers in this price range can be. They were also nicely and neatly packaged with protective foam caps and neatly wrapped in protective soft covers as well as plastic bags in sturdy boxes. I was impressed as surprisingly my other much more expensive pairs of Tannoys were actually NOT as nicely packed and protected.

We took our time installing the spikes and leveling the speakers as well as carefully measuring out the distances to the listening spot to set them up symmetrically as that method already proved itself with Vandersteen speakers that resided in this room before. Once the 6.2s were in place, we took turns sitting in the sweet spot and experimenting with toe in. Once dialed in, the 6.2s locked in with a very focused and believable center image and nicely filled out the room with bass and pretty impressive extension down low in general.

Initial listening (my son listened to them much more than I did as he was deciding if he should swap his Vandys out for this pair. ) revealed the initial impression this speaker walks a line to the warmer and more listenable and forgiving side of neutral. The pair locked in with the Peachtree integrated my son uses and right away I could tell the dynamics were awakened and a new found level of PRaT was discovered out of that 80w hybrid tube/MOSFET output integrated amplifier.

The 6.2s have some ways to go for a break in but out of the box they already impressed us with their musicality, generous bass and good imaging. The 6.2s made us both sit down and listen and keep listening and that is always a good sign. My son is very happy with this upgrade.
