As I stated it might be an impressive demo but a better set-up could/should be obtained in a large but not a ballroom sized venue. That set-up might be good for large crowds but I believe dialing them in for a smaller sweet spot would work best. I wonder if Bill P. might chime in on what they best sized (as well as treated) room might be.

Especially since he's stage left in the photo.

That might be an impressive demo but I would think that is far from the best room/set-up to get the most out of those speakers and amps.
Jim I must say that I am somewhat confused by your comment. What is it about the picture that convinces you this just couldn't work? You can't tell virtually anything about the room from the picture. In fact, the issues that we were able to tame are not at all visible in the picture.

For the record, I have now been involved with the set up of more WAMMs than anyone. That is to say I have heard them in more rooms than anyone. It's very easy to understand what the room is doing in all of them. Is this one perfect? No. Is is good enough to give a view of the WAMM on a level similar to what is accomplished in the Wilson Music Room? Absolutely!

You did not understand my comments. I understand it was a demo. I understand and stated they probably sounded impressive. But I doubt any of the WAMM's you have set up for the fortunate few were placed in homes with rooms half the size of a basketball court? Are you saying Wilson's WAMM's customers want their rooms set up with a sweet spot 6-8 or10 chairs wide?

I guess I misunderstood how WAMM's were going to be shown and sold.

Jim, you make a good point as does Serge. But whatever the room, you play the hand you are dealt.

As for the WAMM, the set up is done for a chosen listening spot. We do not expand that based on the size of the room. The more precise we are in the alignment of that spot, the better it will be outside that spot.

That room in Hong Kong was huge. Further, some of its aspects limited the areas within which we had to work. Still Peter started the demo with Vivaldi's Four Seasons, Summer, I. Allegro non molto (BIS CD-275) to demonstrate the ability to be intimate as well as to scale to a very large size. It was breathtaking, especially with Master Subsonics engaged.

The WAMM has an uncanny ability to portray the image in front of you based on your seating position. When you are off center, it is as if you are sitting stage left or right in a hall. It most decidedly is not like moving in front of one speaker or the other as you would expect with a normal stereo system.

With all that said, we could have tried to scale smaller, but why? The WAMM is scary in its ability to show honest scale. Besides had we done that, I'm sure the young man who ordered one based on Enter Sandman would not have been as impressed with those self induced limitations.

Hope this helps.

Bill

Jim, you completely misunderstand.

1) This is the first time WAMM demos have been done for more that 4 people at a time.
2) People have an opportunity to move around during and after the set demo.
3) See my previous post for set up methodology. Wilson never advocates setting up a "sweet spot" 6-8 chairs wide.

Hope this helps.

Bill

I flew from Singapore to Hong Kong specially just for the WAMM demostration.
It is very difficult to get good performance from the far from ideal demo room condition. I was not impressed when I attended the first session (as the sitting position was no good).
The following day, I attended the second session (with the sitting position advised by WA) and it was much better and I enjoyed it.

Having said that, I left the place and I was fully convinced that I did not hear the full potential of WAMM as it is still not “as good as” my XLF speaker, which is 1/3 the price of WAMM

However, I was very honored that Peter played specially for me (before he started the formal demo to the group) Mahler Symphony No.5 recorded by him.
Thank you Peter for your kind gesture!

Wow that must have been a great experience. Okay now regarding the statement that the WAMM didn't sound "as good" as your XLF. Isn't that obvious? How many times have we said that at a demo in a large room? Place your XLF's in that room and what would the outcome be then? Better yet have the WAMM in your system and then tell us your impression?

Yes, I fully agreed with you. I am 100% classical music lover and I tried to attend as many live concerts as possible each year.

I am very happy with my current system but will love to explore the full potential of the performance with WAMM in my room

Analogue: Clearaudio Statement TT with Statement cartridge
Digital: EMM Labs 2-box latest CDP/CDC
Phono Amp: Pass Labs XS
Pre Amp: Pass Labs XS
Power Amp: Pass Labs XS300
Speaker: XLF with Rel G1 Sub (x2)
Cables: Vaharlla V2
Dedicated room (designed and built for audio playback)
PS Audio P10

So I Love your last sentence, "Better yet have the WAMM in your system and then tell us your impression? "

It will be great to know how WAMM can sound in my room and system before I commit myself to the speaker as it is not a small sum of investment

But unfortunately that is not possible ......

Saw the above post today and decided to give a short update on my system.

Added 2 pcs of JL Audio F212 V2 and CR-1 in early 2019. They compliment the XLF very well and I am very pleased with the purchase.

Added XVX in early 2020 and I am very impressed with the performance that I can get out of it in my set-up/room and it is VERY much better than XLF.
It connects me with the music seamlessly and I feel that I am attending the Live Classical Music Concerts. I listen to classical music vinyls most of the time and on average, I attend 20 live concerts a year (e.g. Singapore, Tokyo and London).

Around 2 weeks ago, after reading quite a few posts from Charles on his experiences on XVX and Thor's Hammer, I had the urge to explore more with my system. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it changes the behaviors of the whole humanity. If I cannot attend live concerts (at peace of mind and in total relax mode), then I will be interested to explore what I can do more with my home music system and get it as close as possible to the live concert experience.

After discussed briefly with Pass Labs and Wilson Audio, I decided and confirmed my purchase of WAMM Package (i.e. Speakers and WAMM Master Subsonic).

Hopefully the speakers will arrive end of the year
