Thanks guys. It gives me great pleasure to show these items and by the looks of your personal systems, you have fantastic experience.

Over time I can show some of the items I collected and also passed on to other collectors throughout the world.

The Sony has to be one of the coolest items I found. It plays well and you can also connect it to an outboard DAC if you prefer....so you can combine coolness with your own preferred sound.

Here are a few more photos, including one of the prototype unit from Sony.

...and here is my old Sony CDP-R10, which also used the same fixed pickup mechanism:

Have a nice evening.

Cool pics! Thanks for sharing!

Any idea what the CDP-5000 and CDA-5000 sold for when they debuted?

Good morning. I believe the CDP and CDA sold for 1,800,000 yen when released.

Exchange rates vary wildy these days, at the moment that works out at $22,500 ?

I looked up a website that claims the exchange rate was between 237 and 249 yen per dollar in the years 82-85 which would have made that about $7500 - modest by today's standards!

Awesome that that thing is still playing tunes, yet how many SCD-1 and SCD-777es SACD players have gone to the scrap heap or been butchered for parts due to failing drive components?

Heck, my own 777es just started refusing to play any discs & is currently functioning as a very effective 70 lb paperweight...

Hi. Yes that is correct, in 1981 $7500 was the quarter of the price of a new Ferrari. One can see how our currency has since been debased.

David S. Perfectly functioning and easy to service. These machines were built like tanks, most often you find this EMT machines like the 927...so well machined they just keep chugging along, like a rolls royce.

I'm wondering, how a cd test report looks like. Any chance for a screen shot ?
