Sony CDP-5000
Evening. I wondered if there were any users out there that had experienced this player? I have never met anyone else with this unit and it took me over 10 years to find one.
I purchased it from the ex-director of the Tokyo opera recording company. He had it since new in the 80's. He considered it to be EMT 927 of the digital world. Hope you like it. The player has a fixed head mechanism and is built very heavily indeed. I nearly broke my poor back carrying this item across the threshold. Although not essential to playback, the seperate computer analyses the cd for defects and noise. Bonne soiree à tous! |

Thanks. Before everything went into storage the Sony sat in the main system, forcing out an Accuphase DP-700 that I still have.
It is most definitely one for the extremists.... |

How does it compare to the Accuphase?

The first CD player made for the public....WoW. Physical condition looks awesome. Looks like it was kept well. The CDP-5000S revision had 16-bit Dual-DACs, 13,3ms locking/programming accuracy and 52kg on the balance. Yes : fifty-two ! So is that what they meant by the Compact Disc format...
I think you need to add a Studer A820 to the mix just to balance the behemoth out a bit What are they going to say about our current high end HiFi fetishes in 30 or so years time... Last edited by MyPal; 10-27-2012 at 12:16 AM. |

Good morning.
Thanks for the responses. I am proud to show you the equipment I have collected over 15 years. The computer connects to the main cd player via a huge printer-type cable...a little like the old Scart socket. The player can controlled via its own panel of keys or from the computer itself...either to play discs or to run tests. It has the same fixed pickup mechanism as employed in the Sony CDP-R10, another player I had once upon a time ago. Many of the controls are adapted to the professional. We can dial in and out a cd with the jog button...early days of cd 'scratching' Output level can be adjusted although I didn't bother with that. There are are also a couple of VU monitors which bounce up and down if you so prefer it...for that 'broadcast' experience. Its really enjoyable to have found a piece of heritage. Sitting next to it is a Denon DN-308 turntable, very similar to what MyPal has in his photo above. |
