Default Luxman E-06 Phono Stage - back to the future
I just bought a Luxman E-06 from 1987. It was a Japanese release only I believe. Always wanted to try a vintage phono to see how they compare to today's phono, took a reasonably low $$ risk on trying one out. 3 inputs, MM & 2 x MC


Just got it this morning, so took the day off. Build quality is superb, it weighs 10kg's. Look at the internal's below. The mono attentuators are just brilliant and easy to tune in the right overall gain level - I wish more phono stages had this - the ARC ref2 needs it.This is the first piece of SS gear I have had for a while and while my tube phono stages are quiet, this is quieter. Of course that does not mean better.


Early days, but very nice so far. the MM stage is very smooth and open. The MC stages add that little bit of SUT musical density and drama that only SUT's can do. Thankfully it is not overdone, so nice and refined and a pleasure to listen to. If the new Luxman gear is as nice as this, go forth gentlemen.


It sounds better than my previous Audiovalve Sunilda and Mcintosh c2300 MM/MC phono stages. At the moment I am no longer craving the ARC Ref2. phono Dyna XV-1 seems to like SUT's. If this works out, it will give me flexibility to use all my tables and cater for tube, SS and SUT sound depending on cartridge.

Makes me wonder if electronics really have improved over the last 25 years.

What a lovely phono amp. The classic Japanese market only stuff was very well built and great sounding. Enjoy!

I owned an E-06 in the 80's, and an E-06a (alpha) in the 90's, I believe these to be on a par with the very best phono pre's.

An E-06 with the Lux C-06 pre is really something to hear.

It is a great unit indeed. It is now being enjoyed by an audio buddy of mine and he loves it.
