Makes sense. I am switching to using ZeroWater filtered water. A reading of .000 TDS does not get any cleaner.

Humidity from a manufacturing perspective, we found the perfect humidity level, in the factory, to be 7%. This was just enough to prevent static sparking (getting zapped, ouch!). If humidity went much over 7% we had solder-ability problems. Wire and PWB's would oxidize (when in storage for long periods) to the point they were unusable. This necessitated date coding materials with an expiration date, sounds crazy!!!! But time is money and we couldn't waist much of it trying to solder contaminated wire or PWB's.

We installed a whole house reverse osmosis system. We have a 2nd stage filter under the sink, and our fridge has another filter. Our drinking water is filtered 3 times before we consume it.

You need to use Reverse osmosis water or distilled water to keep things clean.

Mine are steam and I use well water that is lousy with minerals, especially iron. I did the typical soaking/cleaning with vinegar and that's still a lot of work under really tight, cramped conditions on my units. I came to realize that just letting it go until the buildup forces a shutdown and it partly, literally, falls off by itself, without any vinegar. I guess it takes about 10 days to build up. This is the model below. I bought them at Target.

We have a whole house humidifier. If I set it at 45% we would have ice on all the windows when the temp gets down to around zero as it has been for the last few days. The lower the temperature the lower I have to set the humidifier. I have it set at 30% now and may have to drop it a couple of percent.

we use three Bionaire tower humidifiers (ultrasonic), they do a fine job. Our house is small though, barely over 2100 sq ft.

Honeywell Prestige IAQ thermostats have a window protection function that automatically controls indoor humidity levels based on outdoor air temperature and the quality of your windows. I have used one for a long time and it works like a charm.

Full disclosure: I retired from Honeywell in 2016.
