I bought a pair of Pass X600.5 amps in July of 2013. I was able to use them for a bit over 2 weeks for the July electric bill, and that period doubled my electric bill from $200 to $400. Of course, part of it was due to having to use the AC whenever they were on.

Anyway, I freaked out, and had solar installed, which helps a lot. At the end of my first year of solar I had to pay PG&E about $120 to even up. Now I only use that stereo on Friday and Saturday night, so PG&E should be paying me this year.

Thank you for the response!
Converting amp voltage does require tweaking with the innards - new parts as well as jumper configurations, which I am willing to do to get the best out of them. But, I have more of theoretical questions.

1) If I simply change the breakers on the 120v lines to 30 amps, would that help?
2) Simply put, is having 900e on 120v lines just not a good thing?

Steve.......Unless your two dedicated circuits have #10 AWG wire from the panel to each receptical I would not install 30 amp single-pole circuit breaks in place of the 20 amp circuit breakers. It could create a fire hazard and it is against the National Electric Code to do so.

With the 30 amp single pole circuit breakers installed, the correct size wire installed and 30 amp single phase outlets you will be in better shape for the breakers to handle the inrush current the amplifiers demand when energized. It is highly unlikely you will ever push the amplifiers with music to cause the Evo 900e's to require the 5000 watts (41.66 amps) at 120 volts so 30 amp single pole circuit breakers will serve you much better than your present arrangement. I suggest you contact a licensed electrician or electrical contractor to get the work done correctly and to code. Do it once, do it right.

I had the lines put in by certified electrician a month ago. It is #10 in case I wmated to install 30amp breaker. It is also 3 wire line in case I want to convert to 240v. I will try 30amp and see. Thank you.

Steve.......It is good you have #10 AWG wire installed and the ability to go with 240 volts if you wish. That was good planning. Don't forget that installing 30 amp single pole circuit breakers for your two dedicated amplifier circuits will require a 30 amp receptacle, a 30 amp plug for each amp (Nema L6-30R receptacle, Nema L5-30P plug) and the correct trim plates for the two receptacles.

Ah, the blackouts! As somebody who's originally from Argentina, I sure can relate! This would happen all the time back home. At least twice a week, sometimes more often, and usually every day in the Summer months. Not fun at all during the peak humidity season! Also, the quality of the power was questionable at best. My dad had to install a voltage stabilizer at his workplace due to the crazy wild constant fluctuations. We have 220 in Argentina, but I remember many instances where we actually measured 140 at the wall! These machines would make a whirring, incredibly loud noise every time they had to "compensate" for the lower numbers and do their job, and I remember listening to them "sing" all day long sometimes... No, I do not miss those days at all...

My family lives in Buenos Aires and they tell me that they still get blackouts on a regular basis. In the meantime, their electric bills goes up and up every year. It's infuriating.

My monthly bill averages $50/$60 per month here in South FL, and that is with the AC and computer running all day long. I use the stereo about 18 hours a week, and my wife uses the plasma TV at least 3/4 hours a day, sometimes a lot more. We do live in a 2/2 condo, though, but I frankly can't complain about the electric bill. It's usually $40 or so in the winter!

I had a few Krell amps (FPB-400cx, FPB-750Mcx, Evo-600, Evo-1) and they all added at least $100 a month to my electric bill. I did use them a lot though.
