I've been really interested in these since John Darko reviewed them. One of the key (no pun intended) benefits of them is they actively take "the room" out of the equation because of their innovative design.

My hypothesis is that these speakers would sound more consistent, independent of any room, of most any speaker on the market.

Stephen, you got that right.
With a speaker system like this, you don't only save (a lot) on cables, but also on room treatment.
I'm not saying you won't need some treatment, but this concept needs less of it than more conservative ones.
