Current C22 vs C70
After looking at them carefully I tend to land on the side of the C22. From a feature standpoint, I like the extra features the C22 has such as:
Also like the retro styling but the C70 would match the rest of the system from a strictly ascetic point of view. For those that have bought the C70 what features should I look at the C22 might not have? BTW, I have a line on a new C22 so I have access to both at my dealer. The C22 would be the better deal at the end of the day. |

Brought a new C22 (Display model) from dealer was very taken with how it sounded and cannot comment on the C70, but from a quality finish perspective the plastic toggle switches on the C22 left much too be desired. When flipping any of them there was not enough clearance between the top of the switch and the top of the metal casing they are contained in, result the Tops Of the switches become scratched up. |

My MX110 uses exactly the same rocker switches which never rub against the faceplate cutouts and they never became scratched after 50 years of age. |

I love my C22, but I vote that you listen to both before deciding. A couple of thoughts on the C22 features you mention:
I do not like my loudness button--even at low volume, I prefer the sound without it--so I do not use it. I do not understand the value my mode knob. If I play a mono recording, for example, it comes through both speakers as mono. So why do I need a knob? [Please advise if you know the answer] I agree with the comment above that the fit and finish on the C70 appears better, but I have not seen one in the flesh. Good luck choosing, keep us posted!

Using the mono setting will slightly reduce the noise level on mono recordings. It has to due with cancelling noise artifacts that is a natural occurrence of the mono function. The same thing also happens with stereo material but of course the 3D effect would be lost.
Otherwise the mode selector is useful for diagnosing channel-related issues. |
