Tidal may be the way to go and just bypass a CD player and server altogether.

Default Aurender N10 Caching Music Server review

Owning the X100, I had no doubt you would love the N10 server Dan. I will be ordering my N10 before the month is up. FWIW, I also found zero difference comparing Tidal via X100L vs local file X100L vs cd spinning in my K01X. The Aurender is fantastic.

I prefer the hs_2 driver with my k03. I really need to do some experimenting with different sources and drivers through my k03 to see if I'm fooling myself by thinking the k03 clock is better than some other sources I could plug into it.
Marc.......Thank you. The Esoteric asynchronous HS_2 setting for the USB input requires the proprietary Windows or Mac driver supplied by Esoteric. This driver is not compatible with the Aurender N10 operating system. I had no issues with the HS_1 setting and it sounded remarkably clean.

EDIT Dec.08,2016 Thanks to Travis (tjarmstrong), who contacted Aurender about the Esoteric HS_2 asynchronous comment I posted in my original review, I retested the HS_2 input to the Esoteric K-03 with the Aurender N10 and had success. It took about four seconds to achieve the asynchronous connection and play music. This long delay is why I thought the HS_2 setting on the Esoteric would not work. The fact is the asynchronous input on the Esoteric K-03 is compatible with the Aurender N10. I have edited my review to reflect this information.

Right, I understand. I am just saying that in order to use NORM or HS_1 K-03 setting, I'd need to rely on the clock of the source, and maybe some are worth considering (such as the Aurender). With my Mac Mini, there is no comparison...no way I could use HS_1 over HS_2, because the difference is significant. I even have the W4S Recovery, but it doesn't make up for that difference, I still use HS_2.

Amazing how much clock choices can affect the sound!

Curious, have you compared a 24Bit/96KHz FLAC file on the N10 to playback quality of 16Bit/44.1KHz FLAC file of the same song from Tidal? I know it's not an apple to apple fair comparison, but curious if your ears hear a difference.
Glenn.......I did this today with Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Tin Pan Alley" I have the album on vinyl, CD, and high-res download. This afternoon I compared Tidal's stream of that song to the HDTracks 24Bit/88.2KHz download. The high-resolution download squeaked out a small victory but it wasn't anything to write home about. I noticed slightly higher dynamics from several drum strikes and a few of Stevie's guitar riffs that gave the hi-res download the win. None the less, Tidal's streaming service through the N10 is impressive.

Thanks Dan. I too had a very similar reaction. Kinda makes you think twice about coughing up the moolah for the hi-res download.

On redbook all our recordings are copies from a copy that also is a copy.
Tidal redbook is taken directly from the original master recording. It doesn't lose anything.
All my reedbooks recordings ( +2000 items ) sounds better played from Tidal.
Hi resolution recordings are a little step up but today prices are expensive and as quick digital world is moving on a not far future we will be able to stream hi res recordings too. I payed 50$ for my Kind of Blue DSD recording file.
It sounds better? Yes. But the Tidal version is very enjoyable.
On lower bit rate I have 24/96 recordings files that sounds better from Tidal too.
I'm more than a year without buying a cd and i don't know what to do with more than 2000 cds getting dust on my library.
Just my 2 cents.
PD: I'm from friday ( release day ) rockin' with the Stones Blue & lonsome.

Great review. Thanks for taking the time to do this. The N10 is certainly on my wish list.
