Mvp881 & mx-150

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong. Playing a BR disc & having the indication DTS True HD on the MVP-881, but the MX-150 shows on my screen DTS 5.1, NOT the True HD format.
Can someone help me with his settings (configuration in the setup) of the audio on the BR & the MX-150.
The MX-150 is connected with HDMI & digital component audio cable

Remove the regular audio cable - totally unnecessary. It seems like the MX is picking up that legacy link first before HDMI; is there a button on the remote to pick the audio input source?

Make sure you are using BITSTREAM or LPCM, which is most likely a setting within the BD player.

However, first guess is the RCA cable you have connected, get rid of it and see if the box will re-default to audio over HDMI.

I had the same exact problem. You need to press the "Mode" button on your MVP881 remote control and then select "HD Audio Output". The MVP881's default mode of "Mix Audio Output" allows such things as secondary commentary, etc., but then the MVP881 only outputs the 5.1 DTS core portion of the DTS HD Master Audio bitstream.

You would also have the MVP881 set to "Auto" under "HDMI Setup - Audio Setup" in the MVP881's setup menu.

By the way, I had to use the Denon DVD-A1 Blu-ray player manual to find this information as the "preliminary" manual for the MVP881 doesn't have this level of information.

It makes me wonder just how much more expensive the McIntosh MVP881 would be if they actually supplied a thoroughly informative and complete owner's manual with the player. That McIntosh would actually expect new owners of the MVP881, at that price point, to be good with a third rate, half baked, glaringly inadequate owner's manual is absurd, embarrassing, and part of the reason that ever so slowly McIntosh is chipping away at my confidence in the company. This kind of poor technical support for dedicated customers willing to purchase a universal player of this stature is just one of a number of corporate attitudes that are gradually whittling away my pride of ownership in McIntosh. As a 42 year owner of many McIntosh components, it makes me sad to see the direction that is being taken.

Dan, I hear what you are saying, but I have to admit, it actually was fun for me figuring out how to properly adjust both components. Of course, I love problem solving.

I agree it shouldn't be this way, but as long as we have this AA community and can share our expertise, at least the sonic results from the new Mac components are still where we expect them to be. I'm still in with McIntosh as long as I can figure out how to tweak things, but it doesn't bode well for Mac to rely on Internet forums, the owner's manuals of the products of other companies, and engineering geek users to explain to others how to use their products.

John.......Yes, we are all fortunate to be able to share knowledge on this and other forums. Still, and I say this with a heavy heart, my attitude about McIntosh as a company has been altered over the past few years, and not in a good way. This doesn't mean I don't enjoy the components in my systems, or that my pleasure from listening to my systems has been reduced, it simply means that I feel less cared for as a customer. I feel all customers are less valued than in days gone by. The link between us and McIntosh the company has been compromised to a degree that is not positive in my mind. The corporate commitment to customer satisfaction has declined, in my opinion, and I do not view this as a good thing for McIntosh, their dealer networks, or McIntosh customers.

Not trying to necessarily disagree with you, Dan, but ArthurPE's thread about showing up without a scheduled visit and getting a tour from Charlie Randall himself gives me hope that all is not lost! For all of our sakes, I hope I'm right.

John.......I agree, Charlie Randall demonstrated that the old style of customer care is still alive, and that warmed my heart to hear about it. I am not trying to discredit McIntosh, just offering a glimps at how my attitude has been impacted from the change in direction at the corporate level. No doubt, Charlie is a caring individual, a fine engineer, and a qualified company leader. Were it totally up to him, I think McIntosh would still have that special glow of warmth from Binghamton to me, you and everyone else with a McIntosh component in their homes. Unfortunately, D&M pulls Charlie's strings, and own the keys to the handcuffs. Corporate bean counters reporting to a parent company CEO that operates somewhere else in the world can make life miserable for a nice guy like Charlie Randall.
