That is a great combination, McIntosh and JBL.

Jérôme.......I need to assume care and feeding of 16 KT88's like I need a hole in my head. I am completely satisfied with the MC501 amplifiers in the main system, and once the MEN220 is installed that system will be complete. It's done.

As for the two channel tube system in the studio, I haven't been listening to it much this past month, mostly because I have been enjoying the main system upstairs, and the wonderful PMC EB1i speakers. Actually, I am still seriously considering dissolving the two channel tube system, selling all the components and the Sonus Faber GM's, and getting back to just the two channel solid state system upstairs, and the home theater system downstairs in the studio. I don't need two premium two channel sound systems. The two channel tube system will ultimately go.

I agree with Ron C. I loved the new MC75's when I had them here for review.

We put it on the cover of issue 22 and we only put gear on our cover once in a blue moon...

I love my 275, but if I had some spare change, I'd grab a pair of MC75's!

The Lu Flu is strong in you..."done" is a relative term, for how long ? A month ? Two months ?

Or perhaps putting some Treasure Series KT-88 Z in your 275. It is a far less expensive way to go and so satisfying.

The tube amps are still more musical, whereas the ss amps are superior in bandwidth and detail. When I return home from a symphony or opera, the 275sounds like live music, not high fidelity. Others my differ in this but the biggest failure in audio has been music source, not audio components. I still have my Rogers speakers after 30 years and they still perform magnificantly with analog and digital sources.

I agree with you concerning the 60th Anniversary Issue Mc75's, they are keepers.

Bill

Just got my pair of MC75s installed. Sound a bit thin compared to the MC275MkV they replaced. But, feel sure that is a break-in issue, as I thought the same thing when first fired up the MC275. Am sure things will be better by the endo fthe weekend. Also, I have become spoiled by the smooth sound of the Tung Sol 6550 reissue tubes and am running a set of the McIntosh branded KT-88s. Will swap out all the tubes this weekend. Phillips for the small tubes.

There's a pair of 60th Anniversary MC75 amps on Agon today, under $5400 for the pair.

Even with ~3 hours of play they have opened up an amazing amount. Here's an up-dated pic after I figured out the proper arrangement to use my 1M ICs.
