The MX150 did not go to service. It was checked for normal operation and it passed all tests. Nothing to fix.
We could not verify the problems at the factory so it was sent to me with the users set up and software version V16. I could not make it act up either so I did a factory default and have it set for my sources and system. Since the complaint was noise out of the audio we suspect there was a lot of DC floating on the original system installation. This could come from a variety of sources.

Thanks,

Default All you can say, "it's fm"

I feel for both parties in this matter, Poobah and Ron-C. I completely understand the customer's frustration and disappointment with a piece of gear that won't work.

Ron seems to have made a solid effort to resolve this issue to the satisfaction of all concearned.

During my career I have agonized over situations like this many times and never drawn a finite conclusion. To this day I hate not being able to solve a problem like this. The more I learned, the less I knew, about electronics. And so it goes, just chuck this one up to FM.

I'm glad the new unit works OK !!!

This is what makes our forum so GREAT! We all get to follow this negative/positive adventure from beginning to end. The expertise, observations of Poohbah, Dan, Ivan, John and Ron C. etc. are such a learning experience for all of us. Thanks, guys!

Just like taking your car to the mechanic and never getting it to make "the noise" it makes when he's not around.
At least the new one is working for him.
So.....Ron, is this MX150 going to be on the clearance rack now? lol just kidding

Sometimes all at the same time!
Power control or leaving the amps on, volume turned up or down, there is never a peep out of any speaker at any volume on mute or turn-on / turn-off. Balanced, unbalanced or mixed, does not seem to have any effect. Tube amps or transistor makes no difference. Dead quiet
I set the system up as bi-amp front left-right crossed over at 800 Hz and low cut at 40. 500 watts on the bass mids and a Mc275 on top. All crossover points are LR-4Th order. There is another 400 watt watt amp for the passive HT2 sub. Center and surrounds are crossed over at 80 and 120 respectively and have their own amps.
RP blends all of the dissimilar speakers and amps together with themost coherent movie and music sound I have experienced in my room. Phono sounds great too, feed by my KAB SL1200 with Denon 301 using MPC-1 as a step up.
All is well that ends well I guess!

Thanks,
Ron, you missed out your usual line; "This is Mcintosh's best selling home theater piece of equipment!"

Only kidding!!!

I work for the largest telecommunications provider in the world and manage a very significant sales relationship. We encounter problems, and sometimes the report does come back as "NTF" (No trouble found) but the problem gets cleared. Unfortunately sometimes these things happen and only get resolved when that are looked at and reviewed.

I am very happy that Poobah is happy, and I am delighted that McIntosh responded as I know them to. First rate all the way!
