New platform for my Gryphon Memphisto
With custom height QKX.
Yes I heard a definitive improvement. Deep bass weight, overall richness, Will need 100 hours for it to stabilized. Toga |

The best upgrade I made this year. Critical Mass System amp platform.
Black Platinum Mk II. With little investment. It makes system sound more musical. More pics Last edited by TOGA; 10-14-2014 at 07:09 AM. |

Good sounding it is.
Craftsmanship is only average. Cutting finish, tolerant, is far from being a handcraft, but rather an industrial grade I think. Finite Elemente looks and feels more expensive and more like a handcraft. Toga. |

May I add that the craftsmanship of the frame and feet are very nice, only the shelf that I think could do better.
HRS is what I cannot find criticism about it regarding craftsmanship. Also Finite Elemente. Now my questions are. 1. Will this expensive CMS makes the same magic with lighter weight and cheaper components such as Oppo Player ? 2. How about light weight or component that use small transformer such as DAC or preamplifoer. 3. What to expect if I change all the rack from FE to be CMS. Toga |

TOGA - looks fantastic!
mephisto looks positively evil now on a matching black platform. exactly what improvements did you hear over the pagode? was the pagode spiked to the floor? did you ever consider symposium ultra? |

Thank you. Well story of Gryphon support is long. but I will try.
It was dumped on a carpet with HRS Nimbus under its feet initially. I sounded so liquid, tube like and relax. That was during loan period. When I purchased it, then I ordered Pagode HD10 and use std spikes. I heard lots of extra details and resolution. it was not the sound that I heard and liked during the loan period. deep bass was lean. tonality become cool. the there are way to solve this. by using some spike discs or using rubber based footers such as HRS Nimbus under amp's feet. but the Nimbus were too high, later I use Acoustic Revive CP4 under amps feet, and add Cerabase Classic under Pagode. That I had the balance I liked back. Come to CMS, everything just sound so perfect. strong dynamic, strong deep bass, sweet mid, airy and smooth high. it is so musical. Pity I didn't choose Maxxum or orderd Black Diamond in the first place. I wanted to save at that time and ordered QXK+ Black Platinum instead. But I am very happy anyway. No an interesting question is. shoud I also replace the remaining FE racks for source and preamp with PXK+ Black Sapphire, cost of upgrade will be about almost $2,000. I'm afraid it will be a " too much of good things" , $2000 is fine consider what I paid for some power cords. and my wife likes the more furniture look of Pagode rather than industrial look CMS. cms looks like some great gear.
mr. valin has some under review for absolute sound soon. pxk level should be sufficient - imo the maxxum looks 'too' overdone. not to mention too expensive with an ampstand coming in at over $5.5k and over $30k for the rack. did you decide which phonostage you will keep? lamm or arc? |
