Hello gentlemen,

I have a problem with getting pictures when MVP881 is connected to MX150. I cannot get continues picture but it is coming and going. But, on the other hand, I am getting picture without any problem when MVP881 is connected to a PANASONIC projection directly. Could one of you help me for solving this problem ?

It seems to me that McIntosh is guilty of two things:

1. Announcing product releases far too early. The marketing department seems to be putting the cart before the horse. Probably in an effort to prevent potential customers from jumping ship to competitive products.

2. Caving in to the pressure caused by #1 from dealers and customers who have placed orders. This has caused them to ship the products before they otherwise would, or should have.

It seems to me that the real problem is that the owners of the MEN220, MX150 and MVP881 should have been made to wait until the products were 100% ready, including proper manuals. I dont think the manuals are late, I think they have received the product too early, in an attempt by McIntosh to actually prevent customer dissatisfaction caused by the premature product release announcements.

Of course many people would rather have their new toy sooner rather than later, even if it means getting an incomplete manual. Lets face it, sites like this, and the information it makes available, make a manual kind of unnecessary. And like automobile owners manuals, a lot of folks would never have opened the manual even if they had it.

Lastly, many purchase their item from a McIntosh dealer and have the dealer do the install (properly I hope). They would probably not have needed the manual or this site. Those folks are sitting at home, enjoying the equipment, and don't know anything about the owners manual issue.

John,

I would like to thank you for the clear solution of the problem.Everything is working fine now, although I have not figured out how to add more surround mode settings to the unit as explained with a few words in the manual on page 40 to the left

Regards
Rudi

The MVP881's default mode of "Mix Audio Output" allows such things as secondary commentary, etc., but then the MVP881 only outputs the 5.1 DTS core portion of the DTS HD Master Audio bitstream.

You would also have the MVP881 set to "Auto" under "HDMI Setup - Audio Setup" in the MVP881's setup menu.

By the way, I had to use the Denon DVD-A1 Blu-ray player manual to find this information as the "preliminary" manual for the MVP881 doesn't have this level of information.

You're very welcome, Rudi.

If you are referring to Page 40 of the MX150 manual, I believe those additional surround mode settings (such as Dolby PLxII) are only applicable to 2 channel (stereo) incoming signals, and no post processing is done to incoming "multi-channel" signals. The wording in the manual implies that these surround modes may also be applied to multi-channel incoming signals, but in the setup menu under Audio Mode Setup, the choice for which mode to use is labeled "Select preferred stereo mode". I have confirmed that the surround mode choices do apply to and work on incoming stereo signals, but the mode settings have no effect on multi-channel incoming settings in my system.

That used to be true, and for some simpler products like amps, it still is. However, Audio-Video processors for home theater are a different story. They are becoming increasingly complex. I have had to refer to the manual of these kinds of products for the last several years.
