usbyte.......I thought that was a stretch when I read your comment, "If it equals the Mcintosh then I will keep it." I didn't figure it would even be close. I am not surprised by your reaction to the Yamaha S3000 sound. Your Mcintosh C48, MC352, and PMC IB2I speakers make a formidable sound system. Yamaha is not in the same league.

just curious...what malfunctioned. I would expect modern electronics to be virtually bulletproof, especially one in this price range from a company like Yamaha.

One day I turned it on and the standby let kept flashing with no sound. That was it for me. The Mcintosh has a very smooth and delicious sound(quote from Alberto). Sometimes we take Mcintosh for granted but it's very good.

I'm interested in the A-S2100 for a system in my garage. Impossible to find much info on
the Yamaha's, let alone audition one. I have a A-S301 for my roof deck and it sounds great
considering I paid $400 brand new.

Gave up on Yamaha when they moved their electronics production off-shore to the lowest bidder. They are now made (assembled is likely more true) in Malaysia. Too bad. They used to make excellent gear in Japan back thru the '70s & '80s. They've joined the ranks of NAD, etc.

One of the reason why I preferred to have a vintage "Made in Japan" CA-1000 of the golden age of Japanese manufacturing over the newer A-S801.

Haven't heard the 3000, but I am enjoying getting to know my A-S3200. I have read that their sound is virtually identical.
