Here is the catch:

"The MSRP of the new TradeUP unit purchased must be equal to or greater than the sum of the TradeIN unit's original MSRP and its TradeIN Value".

Hmmm, my dealer said he spoke to McIntosh today and they said my 352 was not eligible.

MC352 MSRP=$4500.
MC462 MSRP-=$9000
75% MC352 MSRP= 3375
$4500 + $3375 = 7875

So $9000 >= $7875 and ..... ??

The catch in my case may be that 1) I need view meter bulbs and 2) I don't have a box. I did notice the trade in stipulated allowable deductions for missing packaging, etc. and this would only push the RHS of the equation lower. I'm not really troubled either way, but would expect a large company like McIntosh to lean towards favoring previous customers.

Mcintosh added the following text to the trade up program description after the original email was sent. The new text adds clarity:

How it works:
TradeIN units must be in reasonable physical condition, must work and must not have been modified or altered from their original design. The TradeIN and TradeUP units must be of like product types, meaning amplifiers must be traded for amplifiers, preamplifiers for preamplifiers, integrated amplifiers for integrated amplifiers, and receivers for receivers, with only the following exceptions:

An integrated amplifier may be traded in for a new integrated amplifier, receiver or for a component set that includes both a preamplifier and a power amplifier

A receiver may be traded in for a new receiver, integrated amplifier or for a component set that includes both a preamplifier and a power amplifier

A component set that includes both a preamplifier and power amplifier may be traded in for a new component set that includes both a preamplifier and a power amplifier, or for an integrated amplifier or for a receiver

The MSRP of the new TradeUP unit purchased must be equal to or greater than the sum of the TradeIN unit's original MSRP and its TradeIN Value.

I see no reason why my MC352 would not be eligible, despite the fact that McIntosh told my dealer that it was not. It is on the list of eligible units and meets the cost function. Hopefully they will sort it out.

I think many would do better by selling their used items on the open market and then negotiating a better than MSRP price for the new item of their choice.

You could buy an almost new MC452 for the difference here ... and still have the MC352 to resell!
