You know my new MC452 is still in the Box from 3 weeks ago, waiting for my Shelves to be finished. I wonder if my Audio Dealer will take back and order a MC462?

I really wonder the how the peak differences between MC452 and MC462 will be revealed in overall ‘musicality’, Many of the other specs are identical. Damping factor, driver recovery control is same. I think low level to moderate volume listening could be the ticket.

At these levels, a 1.2dB improvement in dynamic headroom is a technical achievement but will it yield a noticeable audible improvement on its own? It only comes into play at the point when the amp is already delivering around 700 watts of peak power. (based on the prior dynamic headroom spec).

I can't speak to the improvement claimed for bass performance. That would be largely academic for me as I use subs. In most home system, the effect of a 1.2 dB headroom improvement at such power levels may be worth mentioning but not worth the expense of buying new amplifiers.

This looks like a marketing driven development to me. The 452 is already quad balanced and has the vast bulk of traditional features called out for the newer product.

It will be interesting to see if anybody who does replace a 452 with a 462 and can quantify the difference. Maybe there's more here than meets the eye from the specs but I'm skeptical about the significance of the differences.

I couldn't agree more. I have enjoyed an MC452 for three years now. In my case, when I'm really cranking it, the meters dance around the 4.5 watt level, so the extra dynamic range probably isn't a benefit for me. Someone else posted that the MC452 and MC462 use the same output power transistors.

So, I'm thinking I'll stick with my MC452!

Talking to my Dealer about upgrading my MC452 to MC462. The MC452 is still in the box in my Living Room. Only 3 weeks since purchase. Should know on Tuesday what they can do for me.

Could be a possibility. The price difference is $2226USD if I take back my MC452.

I'd want to audition side by side first for that sort of difference.
