Default Mc462 filter capacity
Hi does any body know what the filter capacity of the previous amp was Mc452.?
The new model states 50% increase but what is it.?

Paul.......It appears that the 50% increase comment was about additional dynamic range. As it stands right now, the MC452 headroom is published as 1.8dB. This equates to approximately 750 watts output on peaks above the rated 450 watts. A 50% increase in that dynamic headroom figure would mean the new MC462 would be capable of nearly 900 watts of peak output above the rated 450 watts. Since I have not seen any published specifications on the new McIntosh MC462, this is only speculation.

Dynamic Headroom increase from 1.8db to 3.0db on new MC462. Still glad I bought the MC452 3 weeks ago new for a great price.

I would assume the unit is improved just as they did with the 1.25k and 611's. It won't be jus the cosmetics.

The most prominent is that filter capacity has been increased by nearly 50%, which has resulted in a remarkable 66% increase in dynamic headroom from 1.8dB to 3.0dB. This allows the MC462 to easily handle drastic swings in dynamics and effortlessly reproduce your favorite music with virtually no distortion. Bass performance is also improved as a result of the filter capacity increase. Our eco-friendly power management system, which will turn the amplifier off after a set amount of time when no input signal has been detected, has been added. Internal wiring and select circuit components have also been upgraded.

Well isn't that a significant increase over the price of the 402 I owned a ways back. At that price point 611's come into play for many but then again not everyone has the space for mono blocks.
