Has anyone compared the Gingko to the Pro-ject carbon? It's hard to find a review of each let alone a comparison.

Gingko seems more established than the pro-ject though the concept seems interesting.

I looked at the Pro-ject, but chose the Gingko based on it having a larger platform, as I recall. My VPI is pretty big. I have no experience with the Pro-ject in use, so have no comments there.

And it's now official: The process of getting a new TT has begun. I've shipped off my Grado Sonata v1 Reference to Grado for the credit toward a new Sonata v2 Statement; when I get that, it and my 309 with all accessories will be shipped off to Sota for work to begin. Since I'll be sending the assembled arm I can't use the original packaging, so the first step will be a box that's sized just right.

When you get your TT, you should give consideration to placing it on A/V Roomservice EVPs for very effective vibration isolation. I just put some of these under my DAC and was very impressed with them, and they are reputed to work even better under TTs. They are also very affordable. Oh, and don't let the industrial appearance fool you; these are the real deal.

See my thread on my measurement of their performance here: https://www.audioaficionado.org/show...4&postcount=35

Here is a review of them using them under a TT at Positive Feedback: https://positive-feedback.com/review...mservice-evps/

Also read an extensive review on WBF last night that these are more effective than the Minus-K active isolation table.

Thanks. If the Sota's suspension is all it's cracked up to be, I won't need an isolation platform (not even my Gingko), but it won't hurt to look at other possible options.

Checking my e-mail, I see my AMEX has been charged the appropriate amount by Grado. Things are very much in progress now!

Another step closer. Today I shipped my SME 309, with all the accessories I had, and Grado Sonata Statement cartridge off to SOTA via FedEx. It should get there Wednesday. Based upon SOTA's typical lead time allowance, I should have my new Sapphire VI 'table sometime in late May–early June.

At this point, I'm hoping mostly for no surprises that up the cost. Any excitement is on hold until arrival is imminent. Meantime, there are also rumblings about layoffs at work. We'll see.

Just got off the phone with Donna at SOTA. The new Sapphire TT is moving along well, faster than I expected. The gloss platter I wanted would be an extra $500, which she didn't think was worth it, and I agreed. The gloss platter was purely cosmetic, so no great loss not to have it. They're waiting on something for the SME 309's setup, which they might have this weekend, then things will proceed. I don't have the proper hexagonal screwdriver to remove the headshell; don't know what happened to it. Donna said she would look into whether she can obtain one and get back to me. If it's not too much money I'll go for it. I could have the Sapphire as early as mid-May if things go well.

Will brace myself for the bill, too.

The Sapphire VI is shipping tomorrow. Look out! It may even be here this week. The question will be can I get it upstairs without being out of breath completely.

I present the SOTA Sapphire VI, in raw form. Will post more when it's assembled and ready to rock. The box with the red tape is the dust cover, the small one contains the platter, and the one it sits on is the turntable proper. This will be my Saturday project.

Hit a snag yesterday, as the box I thought had the dust cover in it didn't; it was the tonearm and accessories. Looks like the dust cover was either forgotten or it's coming in a separate shipment. I sent an e-mail to SOTA, as I don't remember if the cover's coming separately. I'd rather have everything before proceeding.

UPDATE: Heard from SOTA. The dust cover was indeed left out, and should be shipping today.
