Default Noisey tube problem in ET3

Hi all,

I am currently using a loner ET3 until my ET3SE arrive in two weeks. The original EH 6922 tube was replaced with a Gold Lion 6922 after developing a noise problem. Yesterday I noticed that the current GL tube also has some noise. Its not very high and certainly cannot be heard when music is playing but I do hear it when muting/unmuting from my listening position.

I am looking for ideas on which 6922 tube can provide the lowest noise. I would like to get one for my new ET3SE.

Please share your experiences.

Thanks

When the EAT I'd purchased last year failed, I spent a few months tube rolling.

As I recall, the GL was pretty good in the noise dept. Sounds like your current GL must have gone funky. I'd tried several others tubes at the time, one was seriously microphonic, and others were more or less noisy etc.

When I finally received the replacement EAT back, I've been tube-stable now for nearly 6 months.

From my un-scientific noise measuring method (running the volume up full, with no source playing of course) the EAT is the quietest of the bunch...with GL being quite good also, the stock CJ pretty good, and I must give hi mention to the Westinghouse 6922 being very good also. (thanks again repman! )

I had tried a few expensive "NOS" and just didn't have good luck. either they were noisy right off, or ended up going bad in one way or the other in short order. With more time and luck I'd have probably found a good one, but, I grew tired of having the preamp top plate sitting there loose for months on end. Good Luck!

Thanks Rayooo,
The GL is not that noisy but its not dead quiet as I hoped. My experience with NOS tubes has also been a hit and miss case and eventually its not worth the trouble for me.

Maybe I will try the EAT. I heard the Psvane is also very good. Anyone tried them and can comment on their noise figures?

The EH in mine got noisy after 3 weeks. I am now running a Tele 7DJ8 (Upscale) and it is very quite and nice sounding - but then again it only has 150 hours on it or so.

For Psvane - I did not think Psvane made a 6922 - ????

I have an EAT on order....

Agreed with Rayoo, I had tried several including NOS, the EAT is the most quiet tube

Please update how the 7DJ8 works out. I have heard from several people that these are good tubes.

Most of my tube experience is when a tube reaches 100 hours you get a pretty good feel for the sound.

Compared to the EH - note when I replaced the EH it had a good amount of hiss from it. But with that in mind, initially the Tele had a better high end, but was a little looser on the low end. Over time the low end did improve (tighten up) and the highs have smoothed out a bit. Overall a very nice sounding tube - in my room & in my rig.

Once the EAT comes in, I will compare after the EAT reaches at least 100 hours.

I deeply recommend the EAT ECC88 / 6922, these tubes are incredibly quiet and represent - to my ears and in my GAT- the best compromise between the current production and NOS

Just ordered a Matsushita PCC88/7DJ8 from upscale. They are highly recommended by Kevin. I hope it works out well.
