Audi does not offer the dual clutch anymore in the S5. It’s an 8 sp auto now.

Go for the M2 for the white knuckles and sweaty palms experience on the track and a very sporty compact as a daily. Or look for a preowned S4 or S5 with a dual clutch but don’t expect quite the same level of performance. I really enjoyed my S4 but when they dropped the dual clutch I had to say no to a new replacement. My father owns an A6 and I’m less than thrilled with that auto tranny.

As fast as a Lamborghini off the line too! Price tag gets up there though. I sat in one at one of the dealers here in Atlanta. It was black on black interior with bright yellow stitching on the dash, doors and seats. It was one of the sweetest cars I've ever seen.

AMG cars are awesome if you like watching the traction and stability control flashing for 20-30 seconds after you put your foot down. It’s one thing to build a powerful engine and totally something else to design a whole package that can put the power down with finesse....

I have had a 2011 BMW 335i sedan with a Cobb stage 1 kit for the last 6 years and love it. I absolutely love it but it's starting to develop problems at 150k miles. I'm sure I could keep driving it, but want to look for something new. A sport coupe most likely...kids are grown and my gf has an SUV I can use if i need to bring a new tv home or something.

I've always wanted an M4 but I read a lot of reviews that say the F series is not even as good as the E that I already have! Most of those reviews are critical of steering feel and a connected driving experience. Even though I sit in traffic a lot, I do appreciate that about my 335. I'm not a huge fan of the new interiors either.

Truth be told, i'll be in traffic far more than i'll be tracking it. I've never tracked a car, but I am probably going to dip a toe into that world if I do get an M4.

I can't afford a new M4 but I can swing a used one. My budget would be about 55k, possibly 60.

Another contender would be the Audi S5 (current model but also used) but it's not as fast as the M4. For most purposes I am sure it's great.

I haven't seen a used Alfa Quadra whatever in my price range yet.

I'm not a huge fan of Mercedes looks.

I haven't driven any of these cars yet but will very soon.

So...anyone compare the S5 and M4? thoughts? Any others I should be considering?
Your choice will be hard.. I'm driving an N54 Cobb FBO Coupe tweaked to the hilt so I understand your dilemma on what would be the next upgrade torque and HP wise. I was fortunate enough that my tuner/BQ tuning is somewhat local to me. The M4 would be the next step if you wanted to keep it in the family.

When my son wanted a car that would sound awesome, look great and have enough competitive edge built in to take to the track, we found an E92 M3, ordered a Meisterschaft exhaust and did a few suspension mods. It was an awesome project and the car looked and sounded just like this. https://youtu.be/8i6QYTAEPo0

It’s more fun than anyone can ever really need or use on the street and on the track unless you are actually racing.

That sounded great! Meister and Akro are my two favorite exhausts. I agree about the fun factor. I work from home and look forward to when I get to get on to the turnpike and turn it loose. I kind of miss my weekend car meets and rallies.. they took a back burner when diving on the weekends started taking over my time.

I avoid group road rallies anymore. Too much testosterone among the drivers and often less driving skill and brains than money and fast cars. I cruise on my own. Having said that the Cayman R with PDK was my ultimate road rally weapon on the very twisty courses the group would select. While some snickered at my PDK choice including my friend with his RS60 manual Boxster, watching them fumble the heel and toe downshifts through the twisties and leaving them in the dust with ultra quick, rifle bolt like downshifts and always being in the right gear in a car that weighs just under 3k lbs and more than adequate HP for that weight was very satisfying Can’t beat a manual for cruising and enjoying the back roads but also can’t beat a great dual clutch when the pace picks up and the roads get challenging.

The future is definitely electric. It’s already a win for the electric as far as acceleration goes and 0-60 in even in a model 3 Tesla would embarrass most of the performance cars out there and it’s only getting started. Having said that I will hold on as long as possible to the now nearly obsolete internal combustion powered car.
