Good amp indeed but Best? That's a bit of a stretch.

We are in the McIntosh subsection haha.

As a blend of aesthetics , power, performance, and capability its pretty awesome, and I will argue the best in my opinion. Those autoformers to match to headphones allow the distortion levels to be near non-existent.

Oh right, McIntosh subsection! In all fairness it is a great amp and where else are you going to get those blue meters? I was surprised that the McIntosh headphones were pretty damn good too. Not quite the level of Audeze and Focal as I compared all three side by side with the MH150 but the overall synergy between their amp and headphones had a rather musical presentation which caught me by surprise.

I heard the Mc headphones and amp at RMAF. At first I was very unimpressed. I'd say they sounded terrible and V shaped. Then I heard the exact same setup at my audio dealer and they sounded awesome. I don't get it, but at least I still feel pretty good about Mc products.

I also don't like that my MX122 doesn't have a headphone output for late night movies and music, and the MHA150 is a bit big since it also drives small speakers too. I have a 7 channel Mc amp, I don't need to drive small office speakers from it too. I don't get an all in one package in the mx122, yet the MHA150 will look kinda goofy in my AV cabinet. Yet I still want one to replace my desktop computer speakers.

That where it shines , computer setup or studio setup with usb transport.

I loved mine at my old office and then my bedroom. It’s hard to beat .

My Mxa70 ( similar to the mha100 but with McIntosh speakers ) is listed on this websites classified for really cheap

Hi, for what it's worth, I lived with my LCD-4 's quite some time before eventually settling on the MHA 150. To my ears it's a profoundly satisfying match. I listen almost exclusively to classical and opera so needed a system that could handle the enormous dynamic range of a full scale orchestra and also be responsive to the intimacy of a solo instrument/voice.
I've found the levels of 'realism' to be quite extraordinary even to the point where I've almost forgotten that I'm listening on headphones.
Regards

Cheers! They really did a magical job designing the MHA / MXA setup.

Default MHA 100- C equivalent?

I know that McIntosh shares similar components with their other models and also share the same sound signature too. Which of the McIntosh preamps would your say havs similar sound/component specs as the MHA100? Considering using it is also as a preamp. Currently have a c45 in my main system an want to see how 'close' musically it is as a preamp.
