You should consult a specialist before moving ahead with purchasing material and construction. You are better off starting with a dimensionally correct room than trying to fix one that is not. A good friend hired an acoustic firm to design his music room. They used his type of speakers and gave him a complete set of plans (dimensions, finishes) which he used to give to the builder. It may set you back a couple thousand dollars but then you have a professionally designed room that 'may' add value to your home, but, more importantly, will may your listening sessions more enjoyable.
